DGU: Fake FBI

Alan brings this very scary story to my attention

Thugs impersonating FBI agents attempting to gain access to a home. Appears not only have they done this multiple times before, but surprise-surprise, the police have no leads.

Of course that Police really do do raids like this makes it even scarier. One must make a split decision do defend yourself or not against what might be a criminal element, or an overreaching Police force.

If you resist and are right you can save the day. Resist and are wrong, you’ll likely be killed by the police, or tried for murder. Don’t resist and you’re wrong you’ll likely be murdered by the thugs.

Really scary and the only cure is to end SWAT midnight no-knock raids!

These stories make the hair stand up on the back of my neck. What the hell does one do in this kind of situation?

Do you remember the story, not TOO long ago, of the raid done on parents who didn’t take their kid to the ER when he hit his head? What would you do in THAT situation?

Given that we’re both upstanding individuals, shoot everything breaking into your house and hope for the best.

That offers ZERO reassurance….which is why its scary.

I’m with Lissa, these stories really freak me out. We had a rash of home invasions here in Newark a few years back where guys were pretending to be police in order to gain access to apartments, then tying up, robbing, and in a few cases raping the occupants. They had t-shirts with “POLICE” on them and fake badges.

No-knock raids are even worse, since my immediate assumption is that anyone forcefully entering my home at O’dark thirty is a bad guy who would do me harm. I think any reasonable person would make the same assumption. Hesistating because they might be police or assuming that they are will get you killled in such situations.

I say err on the side of caution and treat home invaders like home invaders.

i’m sure this isn’t news to anybody here, but Radley Balko‘s been on top of the no-knock raid problem for years. i don’t agree with everything he says (i seldom do, with libertarians) but when he’s right, he’s damn right.

I think the video system is one of the best ways of determining if the ‘raid’ is legit or not.

I’m really going to have to re-think my home defense budget and strongly consider moving CCTV cameras up in priority.

One look at the thugs on the camera was enough to tell the difference — the lack of lights on the car, the lack of uniform, arms and other accouterments – such as badges on the belt or around the neck.

The other telling aspect was the entry method — law enforcement have access to really cool tools to break down doors and windows — not Home Depot brand pry bars.

I wonder if cops are required to inform 911 prior to serving a no knock warrant or late night warrant.
