Quote of the Day: Trolls

Mike W. over at Breda’s.

Up to a point I like to have some fun with them, but with certain folks I’ve basically instituted your policy.

I’ve certainly instituted it with the troll in question. He’s an attention whore who’s just hoping and pleading that you talk about him or pay attention to him at all.

Interestingly enough, I see no perceptible increase in traffic when he or a couple of the other anti-gun trolls links to me.

There are two things we must understand, and use to define trolls. #1. They aren’t interested in discussion or to add to the conversation. I’ve seen some blogs that Define “Troll” as “Anybody who disagrees with me!”, This is NOT correct. Trolls do the equivalent to farting in Church, and they do it simply for attention.

#2. Trolls by nature are losers. They run blogs that no readers (and of that small readership are people simply gawking to see the troll do something self-destructive), and their communication with other trolls is simply to attempt to glean attention from them. They have no Friends, And their reason for living is to make a shameful mockery of themselves, as their lives and skills are so boring and insignificant, that that is the ONLY thing they can do to set themselves apart from a random idiot licking the windows of the school bus.

Breda’s post was about a certain troll making a stupid post that’s sole purpose was to insult her. As activists we’re not people who are terribly interested in backing down, or allowing false statements to go unchallenged. ‘Tis the pitfall of trolls, they are provoking a reaction. But what’s the harm in their provoking? Nobody actually READ their taunts, and they’re so openly stupid that anybody by chance reading what they say will quickly realize they aren’t worth a hill of beans.

Oh crap. I’m a troll. I got a blog with no readers. I have no friends. Now I suspect my posts are making a shameful mockery of myself.

    Dammit.

I so wanted to be a real person, with keys and everything.

      McThag,

Relax, I do read your blog. I may not have commented yet but as a relative newbie, I can tell you there is a difference between troll and small blogs.

In a small blog nobody reads because they haven’t found you, a troll’s blog has few readers because everyone has found them and found them out to be trolls.

    • Weerd Beard says:

heh. Your blog is still new, and you come off the blogging ghetto that is LJ, give it time, and post more outrageous stuff….or at least more cool AR builds!
