A Look at Anti-Gun Astroturf

When I read the latest post by Joan Peterson I noticed something in her supplied links.

Firs is an op ed by a Ben Van Houten Seems that Ben works for the Legal Community Against Violence, which is a division of the Joyce Foundation. Also Mr. Van Houten references publications by LCAV in his piece without mention that he works for them.

Next up is a Letter to an Editor by one Andrew Goddard. In his whole letter he fails to mention that he works for the Brady Campaign, along with his son Collin Goddard.

Next an article by John Woods, who works for “Students for Gun-Free Schools”. Not super familiar with that one. Can somebody let me know who funds them?

Then a link from “Gun Free Kids.org”, note Collin Goddard in the video. Also I’m curious on who funds them.

Next up an article about “Heeding God’s Call”, note Bryon Miller who has been sucking off the Joyce Foundation Teet since his brother was killed by a criminal with a handgun in Gun-Free DC.

Of course Joan herself also works for BOTH the Brady Campaign and the Joyce foundation. So not a single article by a person who doesn’t directly work for the anti-gun lobby. Seems like a Conspiracy to me.

Seems the only people who support gun control have made a job out of it.

They have no REAL support, remember that!

But wait! What about the conspiracy with the NRA and the wheelbarrows full of cash? NRA! NRA!! N…R…AAAAY!!!

  2. MAgunowner says:

The Joyce Foundation also funds most of the anti-gun academic research. Kellerman, Miller, Hemenway, you name ’em.

Students for Gun Free Schools (SGFS) was founded by survivors of the VT tragedy. A founding member was Colin Goddard- from there follow it to the logical conclusion.

John Woods dated one of the VT victims. 3 or 4 years later he was in Austin, TX getting his PhD when he decided to oppose various pro-gun bills making their way through the TX government to include on campus carry. here it gets sketchy but it appears he one day woke up and contacted other former VT massacre survivors (Colin probably) and within a few short months SGFS was a full fledged and well funded entity. If you read any of the older Austin papers John portrays himself as a victim of VT (he was not anywhere near the building Cho was in) and further states how the SGFS was a grass roots movement that gained support from the local community – but he is pretty mum on where all the money came from. SO basically- he is a shill also.

They also have the normal anti-gunner knack of using the smiling portraits of victims in their “please donate to us” areas.

Andrew Pelosi, nephew to Nancy Pelosi, is also involved.

Oh- and as I said in the other post- I have NO problem in the anti’s suing their 1A rights to further their agenda- what I do have a problem with is when they send out these pronouncements and do not include a small blurb such as “I am the local director for the Brady Campaign”.

I find it disingenous that they try to portray themselves as simply concerned citizens moved to write.

Exactly. I’m totally fine with them speaking out, protesting, writing letters to editors, or hosting blogs or forums.

But I agree things like the Ben Van Houten letter where he doesn’t mention his affiliation, and then supports his argument with materiel produced by the organization he’s working for, and writing the letter for. That’s got some severe ethical issues because they are attempting to appear like somebody acting on their own accord. Same goes with Joan Peterson, she’s shilling for Brady and Joyce, but she never directly cops to working for both organizations.

Baldr is better, and more honest, at least he hangs his meal ticket right up on the shingle.

At last year’s NRA Con, this Joyce group showed up. And I didn’t have a problem with that. I watched what they did (I kinda expected more) I watched my fellow NRA members to see how they handled it….most were bored, some were a bit incensed, and one or two people actually approached some of the protesters and politely engaged them. I didn’t see anything unbecoming on either side, and the “protest easy guns” signs so we knew who bussed them there…all 12 of them.

And of course I had the Irony that I knew everybody in my group was unarmed, despite being people who carry every day, all the time, because NC carry laws suck!

  5. I will very thankfully point out that it looks like they’re wasting their time in Texas.

“Bryon Miller who has been sucking off the Joyce Foundation Teet since his brother was killed by a handgun in Gun-Free DC.

I think you meant “since his brother was killed by a thug using a handgun.”

  7. Linoge says:

If I was being funded by the NRA / Evil Gun Lobby / Firearm Manufacturers of America, do you really think I would waste my time working?

“Grasp of the obvious” is not one of the strong points of anti-rights cultists…
