Drones Droning

So Sebastian posted an NPR show where Robert Levy debated Paul Helmke, and a “Pro Gun Blogger” that happened to be an anti-gun shill. I noticed when listening to the interview that Helmke and his plant Tracee Larson, said the word “Clip” every single time they talked about firearm magazines. Even when they said the word magazine, they corrected themselves with the word “Clip”. Carolyn McCarthy talks about “Clips” when pushing her legislation, Then and Now. You can also see an incessant use of the word “Clip” even over at Joan Peterson’s web page.

Well with all this talk of banning High Capacity Clips, I decided to stop at the gun show and stock up on high-capacity 30-round Clips for my SKS

Ban them all you want antis, I’m stocked up!

Thanks to Graphical Wizard Robb Allen for making my dream come true!

So someone told me that Tracee Larson (of Texas) is a liar and a fraud. I don’t know if this is true, as “Tracee Larson Liar” isn’t a suggested Google search, nor are the top hits pages suggesting that.

I’m not suggesting anything. Just saying.

You just have to love it when ignorant people put their ignorance on parade for everyone to observe.

Yes, the two terms, clip and magazine, have been used interchangeably for years by people who may not know better. That does not make them synonymous, and if anti-rights nuts are unwilling to educate themselves on a point this small, what else do they remain ignorant on?

I suspect the interchangeability of the terms likely comes from veterans of WWII and the Korean War where they may have had M1903 Springfield and M1 Garand Rifles not to mention the S&W 1917 revolver, all which accepted ammunition in clips. But also were the M1 Carbine, M1918 BAR, and the M1911 pistol were all standard issue guns that stored their ammunition in spare magazines.

I really can see why there would be some confusion as the PFC steps up to the armorer and collects some clips for his Garand, while the 1st Lt. collects Magazines for his Carbine and his M1911A1, And the Specialist with his M1918 BAR also gathered Magazines that fed the same .30-06 Military ball that the M1 Garand clips held….

I also don’t see why these people would be quibbling over wrong terms because in those days it kinda was confusing.

Now-a-days there’s no excuse. The only reason why I have clips in my armory is because I’m amused by the bygone days of fixed magazine military rifles. Police don’t use clips in their duties. If the military uses clips its only to facilitate the armorer loading up magazines. (I got a few military battle packs of 5.56x45mm that all came on 10-round strippers, and it had a clip guide that could be attached to a STANAG mag)

Certainly I don’t use Clips in my day-to-day (tho my SKS IS my backup SHTF rifle if my FAL is somehow not up to the task, and the Bianchi Speed strips I carry my reloads in can be considered clips) Modern firearms are loaded by detachable magazines.

In that specific case, I can certainly understand where and how the confusion developed, though I can probably also understand how annoyed the armorers may have gotten when folks asked for clips and needed magazines or vice versa.

Today, with no such chaos of warfare surrounding us, there is simply no excuse for using the wrong term, and doing so clearly indicates that the person in question has no interest in educating themselves on the topic they are discussing. Such people should not dictate laws… being pointed and laughed at is about the only profession they appear capable of.
