Karma on the Floor

So most of you may know of the follies of HS Precision

Well the exhibit floor is totally packed here. I’ve actually made note to come back to many vendors when they are less busy.

Well the HS Precision booth is empty and their represntatives look really bored.

One Gentleman stopped by while I was writing this post and asked if they made Browning BAR stocks. They told him “no” and he moved on.

I didn’t say anything to them. Didn’t need to, seems the people have spoken.

I’d love to see them go out of business. Listening to sugarmann call that the swan song of the firearms industry would tickle me endlessly.

  2. Linoge says:

What, no cheap shot? I am disappointed in you :P.

  3. Cargosquid says:

    Cheap shot.

    NRA convention.

    Rifle maker.

    I see what you did there…very clever….

  4. Phssthpok says:

I wonder if folks would get in trouble with the convention staff were they to gather around said booth, stand shoulder to shoulder, give a concerted ‘stink-eye’ to the booth guy for, say…30 seconds, then turn their backs and ‘shun’ them for five minutes or so.

Don’t actively prevent anyone who wants to visit said booth from doing so, but give them the same treatment the ‘freedom riders’ do to the westboro folks by blocking them from view.

Bonus points for wearing ‘those’ shirts.

  5. Bob S. says:

Good to see an empty booth in this case.

I imagine it stands out all the more because of the business at other booths.

Thanks for reminding us that not everyone has forgotten.

  6. I wonder if we gun bloggers could pool our money and buy HS Precision.
    Step 1. Buy HS Precision
    Step 2. Trash Lon
    Step 3. Profit!

  8. Did you ask ’em if they had any t-shirts left ;-)?

Reading this, I visited Atomic Nerds, and then clicked the Lon Horiuchi link (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lon_Horiuchi) to refresh my memory on that … person. Has anyone noticed what Wikipedia says?

“After his first shot hit and wounded Randy Weaver, Horiuchi fired a second shot at Kevin Harris, who was armed, some 20 seconds later as Harris was running into the Weaver home. The bullet struck and killed Vicki Weaver, who was standing behind the door through which Harris was entering the home; the round also struck and wounded Harris.”

“Behind the door”? That’s not how I remember initial reports.

Anyone out there who (1) can refute that and (2) wants to edit Wikipedia to make the corrections?

    • Tam says:

      CarlS,

The round did, in fact, traverse the door before hitting Vicki.

Legend has blown it up into Horiuchi taking deliberate aim at her, but the door was between them.

The IDAHO v. HORIUCHI stuff is searchable on the web; no need to rely on Wikipedia. (http://caselaw.findlaw.com/us-9th-circuit/1471745.html)

Negligent homicide is still homicide, however, and a gross Rule 4 violation.

    • Tam says:

(Although Bobbi brings up a good point, in that “I was trying to murder someone else and just hit her by accident!” isn’t much of a defense… 😀 )

  11. kaveman says:

I actually called HS after the initial incident and asked them if they sold any “Huriuchi targets” depicting women and children that I could shoot at the range. They sighed and said no.

  12. Crotalus says:

It might be time to persuade them to make amends to the gun community somehow. If they show that they truly regret using Horiuchi, then it would be good to welcome them back to the public market. Gotta be room for forgiveness if there’s repentance, folks.

On the other hand, if they ignore that responsibility, then they should stop coming to gun shows to market their wares, stop marketing to us altogether, and should content themselves with being a government supplier.

  13. Stingray says:

If you’ve got any time left, could you swing by and see if they’ve still got an older guy with white hair and a moustache working the booth? I wouldn’t bet on it, but I’d be idly curious to see a picture of him if he’s there. It’d be nice to have a snapshot of the HS rep that was fixin’ to throw down, maybe settle whether or not it’s Houghton after all. A bit after the fact, I know, but hey worth a shot.

  14. john b says:

Y’know, If Lon Horiuchi was really a good friend of the owner of HS Precision, He’d tell him to make the proper act of contrition, to win back business.
    The proper act of contrition.
A 11X17 poster size target of Lon Horiuchi.

My girlfriend noticed how empty they were and mentioned how EVERY other booth had at least a couple of people there…then asked why. I asked her if she remembered, then explained who Lon was. She looked disgusted and asked why they even bothered showing up, a question for which I had no good answer.

    • Weerd Beard says:

Do you remember what day and what time?

I had to do a couple of flybys for most booths where I wanted to chat up the staff because in some cases they were so mobbed I wondered if they’d blow off the blogger just so they could satisfied all the questions around them.

The booths did quiet down come late afternoon, and Sunday evening the place was much quieter. HS seemed dead the whole con.
