My 2c

A lot of people are talking about this story.

Look I wasn’t there, and there are a bunch of stories bouncing around on what did or didn’t happen.

I’ll just leave it at this: Guns are cool. They’re really cool when you get a carry gun that you REALLY like and think others would like, or say your carry gun is a unique custom gun. Having a desire to show it off is perfectly normal. Hell when I first bought my truck I drove around to my friends house to show them my truck and give them a ride. I like my truck, and it was all shiny and new, and I wanted to share that experience.

Still guns are NOT toys, and unlike my truck where there are roads all over town for diving cars, the world isn’t covered with gun ranges and safe backstops and a designated firing line.

If you have a slick gun, open carry! Put it in a quality holster (maybe a holster as slick as your gun!) and if your gun comes up in conversation simply turn your body so they can see you carry rig. BUT LEAVE IT THERE! If there isn’t a backstop, and there are enough people that you can’t keep track of all of them do NOT be handling your gun.

If you purse, pocket, or otherwise conceal carry, we have these neat inventions called “Smartphones”. Take some nifty Glamor shots of your gun. Want to show somebody your piece, pull out your phone. At a press conference put it up on a flat panel screen.

Wanna see my Carry Gun?

Look at that! full muzzle control, a nice view of the gun, and guess what, it never left the holster and will NEVER sweep a reporter.

You get up, you get dressed, you put on your gun. Barring a deadly force scenario, or a few sundry situations that might warrant taking off your gun, the gun stays in that holster until its secured for the night.

DON’T FIDDLE WITH IT FOR VANITY! Sure it might be cool to see your gun, but you know what isn’t cool? Stories of gun owners doing stupid stuff like this.

I envy your resolve. I cannot say I will NEVER sweep a reporter.

In a weer’d way (see what I did there?), I think this a sign of progress. I can’t imagine, even a few years ago, an elected representative talking openly about their shooting beyond the typical “I’m a hunter” spiel. Now we’ve got people showing their carry guns. Sadly, we’ve not yet developed the social etiquette that people realize that sweeping people is…impolite.

Yeah I do chalk this off as a small win, and a slightly larger loss. (in the end we can point out that nobody was hurt, and indeed this was simply rude and POTENTIALLY dangerous…but so is picking a baby up above your head because you MIGHT slip and drop the baby on the floor, and EVERYBODY has done this and had this done to them)

But yeah it DOES show where carry and REAL 2nd Amendment understanding (as opposed to the old school 2nd Amendment view that make it sound like George Washington Crossed the Delaware river to get to his duck blind before sunup) has come in such a short time.

I’d still prefer people go easy on speaking for all of us until they know their shit.

‘DON’T FIDDLE WITH IT FOR VANITY’
    Sounds like a bumper sticker?

I just got email from the PR director from Gunsite. I had sent her an email suggesting that they invite Sen. Klein out for a 250 class. They did, and she accepted, and she’s going in August.

    • Weerd Beard says:

      OK that is AWESOME!!!

I suspect a good training class and sending a bunch of ammo down range should do her well.

Maybe also convince her to carry a bigger gun, and carry it on-body.

Counterpoint… I clearly remember playing “1911-show-and-tell” in Newbius’ hotel room in Pittsburgh..

    • Weerd Beard says:

Yeah and I didn’t play. Still it WAS a room filled with gunnies and all guns were properly cleared and responsibly handled.

I just prefer to keep my gun holstered and loaded. I loaded mine when I checked into the hotel, and unloaded it before I checked out.

My mistake – I thought your Sc was being coonfingered as well. Just too much pretty hardware that weekend!
