Quote of the Day: Kristopher

Seen over at Alan’s

If Texas wants a better written law, I would suggest following Wyoming’s lead:

Anything less simply proves that Texas is just full of girly-men and sheep who are afraid of firearms.

Now Texas has some of the best deadly force laws in the country. So much I wonder why they actually have CRIME there because that old Texan is just gonna shoot you for being an asshole. I think I remember Alan telling me they lead the nation in NFA tax stamps.

Still with places like Texas and Florida which are both have reputations for being crazy gun-friendly, it amazes me they both have such goofy carry laws, like restrictions on open carry, and guns in restaurants that serve alcohol. New Hampshire and Wyoming have you guys beat…you gonna let them do that? Hell even hippie-dippy Vermont is easier going than Texas!

Is Texas really gonna let their ass get beat by a skinny rich kid living in a Yurt in the woods?

The answer, sadly, appears to be “Yes,” at least for a few more years.

    Weerd,

So much I wonder why they actually have CRIME there because that old Texan is just gonna shoot you for being an asshole.

Simple answer is we don’t have a wall around our state. Longer answer, migration combined with decades of a ultra-liberal/nanny state education system, high population density, low homogeneity of beliefs/race/creed/orientation and a revolving door prison system that just won’t keep thugs in jail.

    like restrictions on open carry,

My limited research into the history suggests it came out of the Reconstruction period after the Civil War. When carpet baggers are running rough shod, they want to make sure they aren’t being shot at. The state constitution grants the state the power to regulate how firearms are worn…..nanny state courts interpreted that quite freely.

guns in restaurants that serve alcohol

This one is frequently misunderstood and is confusing. We can carry into restaurants and most restaurants (unless properly signed) aren’t prohibited.
The confusion comes from the legal definition of a ‘bar’ — the state cheated and determined any place that derives 51% of its income from sales of alcohol to be consumed on site is a bar.

So, we can carry into most restaurants and now we can even carry into bars (51%ers) that fail to properly post their income limit. That is an Alcohol Bureau requirement, they get fined for not posting.

    Hell even hippie-dippy Vermont

Dude, you ain’t got nothing on parts of Texas. Shoot Austin probably has more hippies per capita than Vermont! It is the voting power of the nanny-state enclaves (Houston, Dallas, Austin) that keeps things messed up.

One of the benefits to the state is the Legislative branch only meets every two years. It is also one of the drawbacks — it is hard to maintain a substantial sustained push for legislative reform with so far between sessions.

Great comment, Bob. Only one nit:

“Dude, you ain’t got nothing on parts of Texas. ”

Maybe PARTS of Texas, Vs ALL of Vermont. Thems are hard stats to beat. :p

As far as I can tell Campus Carry is still alive and we got the parking lot. I’s can wait another 2 for open carry.

Maybe we do open and constitutional carry next time around.

“Maybe PARTS of Texas, Vs ALL of Vermont. Thems are hard stats to beat. :p”

Our parts are bigger than Vermont’s whole. ;). No that’s not some kind of euphamism
