“Availability of Dangerous Weapons”

That’s what the antis are saying. People were killed in Aurora simply because a man with a clean criminal background could walk into a store and buy an AR-15, a drum mag, and order ammo online in bulk. (let’s not dwell on most of the victims were shot with a simple pump shotgun…never mind the man behind the curtain!)

Wouter sends me this little blast from the past:

Yep, used to be able to buy ALL KINDS of crazy stuff through the mail before GCA ’68. Also note that while the AR-15 was still in its infancy, and not yet sold to the public by Colt, there were still guns that could be had for easy money, like the M1 Carbine with its 20-30 round magazines, or the Thompson Sub-Gun which is famous for its iconic 50 and 100 round drum magazines.

And of course not only was there no federal background check for these sales, there where any laws against selling them to felons or mentally ill people, nor was there even an infrastructure to conduct a voluntary check on a person.

Antis, your hypothesis is wrong, try again!
