Call To Arms

Looks like some action is being taken about the Marine arrested for carrying a gun in NYC.

A third-generation Marine arrested in New York City after trying to check his Indiana-registered handgun with security made an “honest mistake” and should not face prison time, his attorney said Monday…Boston lawyer and veteran Marine Dave Bruce has organized an online petition through the website leatherneck.com that plans to send its first 14 e-mails to Cyrus, New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly and Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the New York Post reported.

“The theme is not to have Mr. Jerome treated like a common thug,” Bruce told the newspaper. “He deserves to be treated better.”

A Facebook page, called “Free Ryan Jerome,” has also been created in the hopes that Jerome — a TOW gunner before his honorable discharge in 2005 — will be cleared of the charges.

So go and make some noise, and urge your Senators to support HR 822 which would have made this simple act that was safe and harmed nobody perfectly legal!

I hate to say it, but this was not an accident. Admittedly, I don’t think I’d haul around 15 large in gold without packing too, but dammit, I’d know what the risks were. This is a case where, like Barrett, I’d choose to ply my trade in more hospitable climes and let the state in question know that they are losing my valuable revenue. Unfortunately, there aren’t that many smelters with that capability in more moderate places (and those that are, probably send their stuff to NY with a great markup).

No, he was not passing through, so could not take advantage of the safe passage rulings, he was just banking the odds.

My question, though is why in blazes did he go to a place where he knew there’d be metal detectors?!

Best of luck, Mr. Jerome, but I’m afraid this is a case of play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

P.S. This hits home because next week I get to travel to Rico’s Port, and I can’t carry there either, despite flying into and staying in the two most dangerous cities in the country. Joy.

He should be able to carry there but in order to avoid trouble he didn’t want, he should have reconsidered his choice. It’s not America there.

He should stick to his TOW when he’s in tyrannies.

He’d have a pretty decent equal protection case if they don’t cut him the same deal as they did for the woman from TN and the tea party guy. Very similar circumstances, at least as compared to the TN lady.
