I personally find Jimi Hendrix’s rendition of the Star Spangled Banner to be the MOST American rendition of our National Anthem. A popular American musician playing one of the most popular forms of American music that has its origins rooted right here in this nation at an open-air public festival is really what the 1st Amendment was all about in the first place.

I’m one of the people who are not a fan of Hendrix’s version. Not because it was ‘unorthodox’ but because I don’t like that genre of guitar playing.
I like the fact that he could do that version though. One of the big differences in mentality; just because I don’t like it doesn’t mean that anyone shouldn’t be able to do it.
