I Guess I Don’t Have To Keep My Eye On the Road

I’m all packed to head to Northern Maine for funeral services. For those who know, the roads north of Bangor are pretty desolate and surrounded by raw forest. According to Jason Kilgore of Joyce Shell Group Cease Fire Oregon, I have no reason to watch the treeline while I’m driving.

See Kelly? You Don’t Even Exist!

For you “Gun Death” goons, a firearm is a great way to humanely harvest an animal while hunting. Of course people also hunt with bows, snares, even spears and knives…but I wouldn’t expect any “Progressives” to know any more about hunting than they do about guns.

The American White Tailed Deer is actually the most deadly creature in North America. Not from attacks, like most of the “Bear Deaths”, or from disease, like the Tsetse fly in Africa. But from Auto-Strikes:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates there are approximately 1.5 million auto deer collisions per year, resulting in damage losses of around $1.5 billion USD, which works out to an average cost of $1,000 per accident. State Farm Insurance Agency also supports these statistics, and goes on to report that, in the year 2004, there were 150 human deaths in the United States that were directly linked to car deer accidents.

I doubt there will be 100 let alone 150 hunting deaths this year. Seems it only about 50 from this source, and of course that includes vehicle accidents, and falling from tree stands or hiking trails while on the hunt.

Nice try guys!

Last week was warm enough to ride my motorcycle to work. Last week was also shotgun deer season in Ohio. I would much, much rather see hunters in the woods and fields on my way to work than deer–A hunter has never threatened to kill me, never jumped out in front of me when I was going 55, nobody I know has been injured or had their car damaged by a hunter.

What Sevesteen said. Up here in BuckeyeLand, it’s a running Joke that one needs an ’89 Buick to get a Deer anymore.

Here in South Carolina I have hit three deer in three different cars in my 30 years of driving. There is seldom a week that goes by in the fall and winter months that I don’t see a deer that has been hit by or in the road.

Watch out for the wandering moose. They’re a worse traffic threat than the two-legged Mainers.

Sorry for the trip, but glad you made it back safely.
