“Progressive” Stupidity

Bob has an amusing post up on NYC decriminalizing marijuana, and the hypocrisy when one notes their restriction on various food items.

I pointed out the New York City has HEAVY restrictions on tobacco smoking, essentially Bloomberg is trying to ban smoking in all spaces that are accessible to the public. (Let’s not look too deep at the fact that you can be standing on a sidewalk next to and overfilled garbage can, a dumpster in the ally, a homeless person using the toilet behind the dumpster, and countless cars, trucks, and buses idling in a traffic jam, while jets and helicopters fly in low…but god forbid somebody sparks up a butt!)

This is NOT public health, this is legislation of a social doctrine. This is no difference than Theocracy, such as Muslims restricting Alcohol and Pork for consumption, but have no restriction on Marijuana. Or say why its illegal to butcher a horse or dog for meat in America, but there are many nations where its a common culinary tradition.

Massachusetts is (per usual) is right behind NYC in banning smoking, but legalizing marijuana. Heck Boston is even working to ban Electronic Cigarettes, meanwhile you can smoke a joint while sitting on a park bench in Boston, and if the person refuses to give identification when caught, the WORST that can happen is the pot will be confiscated by the police.

Also I was musing to Bob about the smoking of “Blunts” which is a hollowed-out cigar that is then stuffed with marijuana. The wrapper is made of tobacco, and I’m sure there is some tobacco filler left in the mix. So what is this? Is this “good” Marijuana, or “Evil” tobacco? This is as stupid as “Texting while Riverdancing”.

And in closing I found this quote in the Wikipedia article to be a further example of this stupidity. Yeah its Wikipedia, but I think its representative of current “Progressive” thinking.

Due to the tobacco content in the wrapper leaf, blunts carry with them the risks of tobacco use, including addiction and cancer

Ok the addiction part is valid, Marijuana doesn’t contain nicotine, and THC does not have the addictive qualities of nicotine, still what’s with the cancer bit?

YOU’RE INHALING SMOKE! Not only that, but you’re substituting dry cured tobacco for damp green marijuana buds!

Sorry kids, but inhaling ALL smoke is bad for you, it doesn’t matter if its weed, or if you’re just doing a LOT of grilling or sitting around a camp fire!

Nothing like people who have no knowledge of biology or medicine dictating what’s “Healthy” for us all!

I’d say just let people wear their big kid pants and do what they want, and everybody else wear their big kid pants and know that you don’t have to like or love how other people spend their time.

For the record, horse meat is legal in the US again.

    • Weerd Beard says:

Yeah I just read that when looking up the law, and I’m glad to hear it.

Still the fact that it WAS illegal until very recently, but now is A-OK shows the theocratic nature of such laws.

      • RabidAlien says:

Horse-meat is legal again? Hmmm…maybe McDonalds patties will start actually tasting like meat again….

…well, maybe not. It is, after all, McDonalds.

        • Weerd Beard says:

A dairy farmer I knew said that the fast food joints bought all his cows after they stopped giving milk.

Its beef…its just not GOOD beef.

        • Kristopher says:

The horsemeat gets sold to the French.

The only thing the criminalization of horsemeat in the US did was force people with unwanted horses to let them starve.

And guess who was behind said criminalization?

          PETA.

And they are also the retards putting up signs in Wyoming telling us that we are bad people for have a licensed knackers in our state.

  2. Tango says:

I like your argument… but I’m sorry. With the thought of horse meat, all I can think is that I want to try it.

  3. Rob Crawford says:

But, don’t you get it?! Tobacco is uptight white folks and oppression, while marijuana is brown folks and hippies and fight the power!

    • Weerd Beard says:

LOL, yeah because there’s no such thing as a white pot-head (and George Bush NEVER smoked weed back in his Coke-and Booze college days) and all those stereotypes on Menthol cigarettes are false!

  4. Greg Camp says:

Um, if marijuana is going to be legal in New York City, but fatty foods and sugar are banned, what’s a pot head going to do when he gets the munchies?

  5. Bobby says:

Well, I seem to recall my hipster douchebag clove cigarettes being banned … yet menthols seem *just* fine. Some people alway tryin to keep a cracker down.

    • Weerd Beard says:

That was straight up bullshit! I used to smoke cloves….of course I smoked them before the hipsters found them! (IRONY!!!)

Also I wasn’t a pussy like thems hipsters! Go Unfiltered or go home!

  6. Matthew Carberry says:

To be precise, smoking a J in public is still an offense. What is now going to be only a citation is possessing small amounts openly. It’s a response to an unintended consequence of Bloomy’s “stop and frisk” policy.

As I understand from another article, the legislature already wrote a law saying that if the cops searched your car or house and found a small amount they simply took it and wrote you a $200 ticket. However, if they “stop and frisked” you in public (as part of Bloomy’s war on crime, didn’t happen much outside of NYC), and you had to empty your pockets on the sidewalk, thus exposing your dime bag, that was “possessing in public” which was a mandatory arrest.

Since “stop and frisk” is disproportionately applied to minority males that meant a bunch of guys were going to jail just for walking while black (and holding of course). Bloomy said get the law changed, don’t ask my guys to not enforce it.

    Thus this change.
