Terminal Ballistics

I’ve shot pumpkins with Mosin Nagants on many occasions. You can generally burn a whole clip on one and still have something to shoot at.

Now add expanding ammo to the mix!

That kids, is how pumpkin pie filling is made!

And it makes Joan Peterson cry!

(she’ll probably follow the track-back and no realize that Gun Geek is a Canadian Subject and has to submit to “Common Sense Gun Control”. Poor bastard needs to neuter his SKS rifles down to 5 shots!!!)

I can personally attest that FMJ .308 will blaze through a pumpkin without even imparting enough energy to so much as spin the bloody thing; For a while, I was not overly convince that I was actually hitting it.

Fair to say “FMJ” was my problem…

Hell I’ll top you. I shot a big ass pumpkin with a Serbu .50 BMG. There was still plenty of pumpkin left for people to shoot even after everybody on the firing line had a go (we’re talking 20+ people at this pumpkin shoot)!

Pumpkin didn’t even slow it down. Now to be fair FMB 7.62×39 will work very well, because the round is going slower and has more chance to dump the energy into the veggie! (or Fruit, technically)

Huh, I thought the bigger problem with pumkins exploding is that they are hollow and don’t have the hydrostatic shock factor that a nice big mellon has.
