Criminals Deserve Some Credit

They aren’t the smartest people…if they were they’d get a job. But they’re also not completely obtuse.

Crime in an Oregon county has reportedly gotten so bad that residents are vowing to protect themselves on so-called “Glock blocks” instead of awaiting authorities to respond.

KOIN.com reports that Coy Tolonen, who lives in unincorporated Clackamas County, and a group of Jennings Lodge residents are responding to escalating crime in their neighborhood by posting fliers that read: “This is a Glock block. We don’t call 911.”

“We’re starting a new group,” Tolonen said. “We don’t feel neighborhood watch is sufficient, and we don’t feel the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office is sufficient.”

Oregon has been cutting their police forces like crazy with the economy in the dumps, so people have had to make do.

There’s some talk in the article about this being used against petty crime…still at the time this is just talk. Further how do you think petty criminals will react to this? Growing up in Maine, I have no idea if this is true, but it was always said that if you messed with lobster gear the lobsterman who owns that gear would murder you. Anything from taking lobsters from a trap, to stealing buoys. Petty shit, but death was the alleged punishment. This of course was murder and a serious crime for the lobsterman, but guess what kids did when they found a lobster trap washed up on shore?

Good for them!

There IS some talk about using it against petty crime, but Mrs. Tolonen has reportedly had people try to break into her home. That’s not a petty crime.

It also doesn’t take a genius to figure out that once the criminal element moves in, things tend to escalate. This is simply an attempt to nip that right in the bud!

Plus, it’s an unincorporated part of the county, which means there’s no “city” police force. They’ve depended on the county sheriff’s office, which usually means fewer officers patrolling a wider area (the whole freakin’ COUNTY), but lately that’s not been cutting it. That’s not to blame the sheriff’s office – budget cuts suck @$$ for everyone – but someone had to step up, and she’s getting her whole neighborhood to pitch in. Good on her!

A “Glock Block” also mitigates some of the disadvantages of individual houses with “I own guns” signs in that if you break into a house with a solitary “I own guns” sign, odds are nobody is home, so you aren’t likely to get shot.

It’s much more difficult to break into a house when nobody in the NEIGHBORHOOD is home, and if the neighborhood professes to be armed, odds are “Somebody gonna get hurt real bad.”
