More on Obama Gun Control

Interesting to read between the lines on this one:

President Obama is suggesting that House Republicans on the issue of gun control appear neither willing to work with him nor listen to the American public on the issue.

“The House Republican majority is made up mostly of members who are in sharply gerrymandered districts that are very safely Republican and may not feel compelled to pay attention to broad-based public opinion, because what they’re really concerned about is the opinions of their specific Republican constituencies,” the president said in an interview with The New Republic.

Obama also said he can get 50 percent of public support for many of his upcoming initiatives, but “I can’t get enough votes out of the House of Representatives to actually get something passed. … I think there is still shock on the part of some in the party that I won re-election.”

First there’s a reason why Republicans aren’t budging. They know that these laws don’t do anything for public safety, and only effect lawful people, and the people who vote.

Also for his “50 percent public support” line, I doubt it. This may be for a generic unnamed bill, but when text hits the scene, I suspect the support will drop like a rock. And we’ll close for a little Fudd crap:

Has Obama himself ever fired a gun? Yes, he says, he and others shoot skeet frequently at the president’s Maryland retreat, Camp David.

I must say, of all my fears, clay disks attacking me, or depriving me of my liberty is REALLY small. Same with the meat-analog of the clay birds. I find Hitchcock’s fantasy to be about as plausible as Romero’s, so again, gun rights are NOT about hunting or sport shooting.

    50% my ass

HE is pissed off because the Republicans are listening to the people and not him. Just look at the news, look at gun sales and increase in permits and membership in the NRA. . . gun control has no real support and everyone knows it. Obama is lying again. . who would have thought it. . . .

+1 This isn’t just the hard-line Threepers buying all the guns, ammo and magazines. These are new shooters and fence sitters getting in before its too late.

Hell all the gunnies I know are cutting bait, waiting for the prices to come down again. Its the newer shooters who are doing the real panicking. That’s NOT support for gun control!

        Indeed Weer’d.

Of the established gunnies I know, none of them are buying guns.

It’s all the casual and newbies. And they ain’t buying them with the intention of turning them in.

Well, in his mind they have the responsibility first to the government, not to those peons who vote and pay taxes.

And an example of “Why won’t you sister-humping rednecks vote for ME!”

Though Obama’s thinking of this as win-win. If he splits the Republicans and gets something passed, he can build on that for more gun control later on.

If Republicans don’t play ball he can continue his “They don’t care, they won’t compromise, and are in the way of Forward! Progress.” and continue to blame them.

Either way both give him some ways to add strength to try to swing the House to the Dems. Though that’s more of a side benefit for Obama. The real gravy for Obama is increasing his own political power and marginalizing and subverting other power bases.

    It’s all about Him.

Also it seems like odd negotiating strategy to admit that you’re plan won’t get enough votes before you officially start it.

And then insult the people you’ll need to convince.

There’s saying your goals are an uphill climb, and then there’s saying it isn’t gonna happen.

Course, if he does manage to get something passed, admissions like this won’t mean squat.

It does set the bar artificially high as to make a failure to pass the laws seem less crushing, or simply to point out how serious he is about all of this. I think like the Troll Mike BunchofNumbers, Obama doesn’t really care about guns much at all right now, but found a hot-button to distract from the economy, war, and Obamacare.
