Who’s The Irrational One

Also I love at the end how he claims that Larry retreated from the interview, when he damn well knew how much time with the guest he had.

BTW I love the bait-and-switch tactics of the antis. They talk about extreme and ridiculous measures like if citizens should own tanks and attack helicopters (which simply isn’t an issue at all), or say “100 round magazines”, when what’s on the table is bans on semi-auto rifles and magazines holding more than 10.

We can debate the extremes all we want, but in the end those extremes aren’t even in the political arena right now. Even if I was personally opposed to attack helicopters, and nukes (I’m really not, as justifiable use of those items in a functioning society is hard to justify, so the point is moot. Own your Apache with a 20mm Auto-cannon, and air-to-ground missiles, good luck USING those things without society comming down on you HARD…and if you DON’T use those things, but just have them, who fucking cares?) we’re not talking about that, we’re talking about being able to own a S&W M&P9c with its 12 round magazine, vs a 10. Or owning a semi-auto rifle.

These things aren’t even in the same league, and saying you’re OK with the restrictions on 20mm Auto Cannons, or claymore mines, means you’re 100% fine with banning a semi-auto target rifle, or an 11 shot magazine is childish.

It is a shame Larry couldn’t stick around longer, we all know he was looking at his watch the whole time because he had work to do, and winning over this little puke wasn’t a priority over getting his message out. I’ve certainly had DOZENS of antis literally run from the arena with no excuses given. We know where they stand.

Yeah, but this one IS going to be thrown up in our faces… sigh

Well and Apache with all the fittings, first you need a lot of cash to have one as the basic chopper is about 15million each, the guns add a few mil for the gun and the systems to use it and the rockets are north of 100K dollars each. The chain gun eats
ammo at the rate 625 rounds per minute with up to 1200 in the magazine. That 1200 round of 20mm we can call at 3$ a round (in 100,000 round lots) so that is over 3600$ for two minutes of shooting. Now it burns fuel in the range of 140 gallons of jet fuel per hour each engine (there are two). At current civilian prices that are north of $5 a gallon we see that an hour flight is about 2500-3000 dollars. Maintenace is around 100$ an hour )allocate this amount, so to fly for 100hours there will likely be two maintenance cycles of about 10,000$, likely more. Parts and ammowcosts need to be in the budget. So raw cost limits possible discussion and ownership to the frightfully rich. So it’s NOT a real issue even if legal. In short its so damn expensive to fly and shoot you’d likely save if for the most critical uses.

So its just another ad absurdum argument when applied to firearms. As to tanks and field armored (tracked or wheeled) equipment there are already private owners. They
are again costly and maintenace hogs.

So in the end soon as anyone goes there I dismiss them summarily as hacks and fools.
My message to them is plain and clear, “When you com back to earth we can have a conversation about guns.”, next!

The long and short is if they wanted to ban the absurd over sized drums and other useless things we can talk. Since they have no concept of what a rifle weighs and
what 30 or 100 rounds of 5.56 adds to that weight they are talking out their collective butts. Personally I’d hate to have to carry a bowling ball around all day.

It’s a two man aircraft, I don’t need any of that filthy lucre, I just need a rich friend!

Besides, think of all the money the gov could make in renting the ranges that sit idle when the mil isn’t training.

  3. Bob S. says:

And the answer to the question is “We are okay with outlawing child porn, fraud and threats, does that mean the government should be able to outlaw speech between friends, in a church or a political party?”

The other aspect is People can already own tanks, helicopters and fighter jets. We can already own cannons, fully automatic weapons. There is a law already in place for those items.

So instead of running from the absurd; confront it head on!
I did that on my blog with the “Convince me why people shouldn’t own nuclear weapons” — not one anti made a cogent case against. Ask an anti “If you owned a nuclear weapon, would you use it?” Millions of people own firearms and they don’t use them…..so why should we punish them for NOT using a weapon illegally?
