Is the GOP Doomed

I’m not sure, but this is a good observation:

With all her missteps in her solo political career, Hillary Clinton has some very well-defined weak points. That being said, all of this was true with Barack Obama in 2012, but he won because Mitt Romney was a HORRIBLE candidate.

I don’t know if we’d be so lucky that another crushing defeat in 2016 would simply kill this party of big-government idiots, but it certainly wouldn’t help the GOP branding after 8 years of unpopular George W Bush, and two defeats in 2008 and 2012. This very well might work out for a third-party revolt which wouldn’t create a 3rd party as much as kill the GOP and return us to the standard two-party system, just with a new name for the anti-socialist party being either “Libertarian” or “Tea Party”.

Another possibility would be an internal insurrection where the old-guard big-government Republicans are pushed aside for a new, younger, more radical small-government faction.

Of course the most likely scenario is more big-government crappy GOP candidates losing elections.

What do you think?

Let’s see what happens after the Mid-Terms. But I can see the Republitards gaining control of the Senate, then Immediately “Reaching across the Aisle in a Spirit of Bipartisanship.”

And after 2 years of Pandering to the RINO Wing, Hillary should have Smooth Sailing.

The sad part is, I can see that happening, too. The Stupid Party wins control of the Senate and continues on the left’s failed path.

What they SHOULD do is undo the Democratic “Nuclear Option.” The Dems, by a simple majority, changed the Senate rules regarding non-SCOTUS nominations and rule changes. Because turnabout is fair play – and because the American People are sick of the constant rule-changing to facilitate “wins” – the GOP should, by simple majority, change the rules to say that ALL executive nominations must have a 3/4 (or 9/10 😉 ) majority, and ALL future votes to change the Senate rules must be unanimous.

It might cripple Senate proceedings and “progress,” but how is that a bad thing, exactly?

The way I see it, it’s a political chess game, and the Dems opened themselves up to some wicked turnabout if the GOP has the balls to make the next move (King’s Gambit Accepted, anyone?). Sadly, I strongly believe they don’t.

I think that relying on politicians of any flavor to create a smaller government is a mistake. It’s just not going to happen until the whole thing collapses and it’s out of their hands. The GOP is perfectly happy with their minority status. They get to do nothing, “Because the Dems are in charge” and then run against the democrats on all sides.

I suspect that they are terrified at the thought of actually winning control of the Senate and having it all be their fault again.

Funny enough, Hunter Thompson pondered this very thing back in 1972- for the Dems, of course.

2016 will be interesting- a wide open field on both sides, so expect to see more ‘A’-list folks battle it out. Typically the top level people avoid going against the incumbent- which is why we would up with Mitt.
With that, both sides will by needs run against Obama- not really a good thing for the Dems.
And as a general rule of thumb, people tend to get sick of a particular party after 8 years.

Great comment! I must say of all the Hunter Stockton Thompson books I’ve read, Fear and Loathing on the Campaign Trail of ’72 is not one of them. I may have to remedy that…as if my reading list wasn’t long enough. Seriously my Kindle is the damn Hydra! Every book I read 3 replace it!

I will say, as little respect I have for James Carville, and as much respect as I have for the late Dr. Thompson, I’ll give Carville the edge in political preditions, and I’ll give Thompson the edge in predicting how bad a night will go when you mix X Y and Terrible Z drugs in your system and wash them down with Wild Turkey!

Still it will be an interesting race, it will be MORE interesting if we actually get a Republican who has some fire in their belly rather than the last bunch of warmed over corpses we’ve nominated.

Of course I have little faith in the GOP, hence why I left them.
