On Lemons

This is a really great review.

What makes it great is he’s examining it between three separate guns, so I think the assessment that the design is flawed. Now I wouldn’t say that just from his first video:

Anything mass-produced at a good price will have units that suck. Its just the nature of the beast, sometimes a unit won’t run, or will have problems. When you want to shave the price you do it by not extensively testing or fitting all the units. Instead you only test every X unit, or randomly test a few units every batch or amount of time. This will detect problems, but it might not catch every bad unit that leaves.

Now this goes for EVERYTHING! When I bought my Ford Edge the entertainment system didn’t work. Now I don’t hold that against Ford, either they didn’t test my unit before it left the factory, or something broke in transit. I did complain and refused to accept the vehicle until it was made 100% and the dealer did that, and gave me a car to drive until they fixed it. Same goes with guns, talk to anybody in a gun shop. They’ll get a unit from a great line that is just messed up. They simply send it back and get a new unit.

Still when we’re talking about three completely different guns, now we’re seeing a trend, and that does NOT bode well for the R51. This doesn’t effect me, despite this being a gun I will likely be able to own in Massachusetts because I frankly don’t care for the design even if it works perfectly. There are just guns that are better suited for me. Still this gun was NOT designed for me, and sadly those people, such as lefties, or people with less hand strength won’t be able to take good advantage of this gun.

It’s a shame what’s happened to a historic brand. The failures are being seen across all the firearm lines: Marlin, 870, R51, R-700…
