Socialist “Protection”

Wow, gotta love the Mommy State!

Easy on the cinnamon! That advice from Denmark’s food authority has rankled pastry chefs whose cinnamon rolls were found to violate the European Union’s spice rules.

The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration recently discovered that Danish cinnamon rolls and twists contained more coumarin — a chemical compound in the most common variety of cinnamon — than EU rules allow. Excessive intake of coumarin can cause liver damage.

The agency asked bakers to reduce the amount of cinnamon they sprinkle in the dough for their sweet treats.

To be fair, excessive consumption of sweet treats can also mess up your body. I have my doubts these rolls were SO loaded with cinnamon to be any more dangerous than the fat and sugar also in the rolls.

But with all encompassing government comes all encompassing rules and regulations!

When did governments start trying to make people immortal?

I’m sure they believe that reducing the amount of cinnamon in those cinnamon rolls might add a few days to the end of SOMEONE’s life SOMEWHERE… but face it, if that someone eats enough cinnamon rolls that it would have much of an effect, then those few days would probably be those crappy days at the end where they are bed-ridden in some “retirement” home somewhere, out of their minds, calling some strange lady “mommy” all while family stands by completely ignored because “who the hell are THESE people? and do they happen to have a cinnamon roll on them somewhere?”

Just returned from a California vacation–every restaraunt has a sign advising that coffee “contains compounds known to the state to cause cancer”.

Funny… up until that point, I’d only been exposed to studies that touted reductions of cancer rates in coffee drinkers!

I’m always amused at things that are “too dangerous” in one state but fine in most of the others.

Can’t buy a beer in a grocery or convenience store in Mass…seems every other state is just fine.

Can’t pump your own gas in Jersey…but seems to be fine in all the others. The list goes on, and its really laughable.

They have to put that sign up because the containers the coffee is stored and served in contain some dyes that “have been found to cause cancer” in laboratory animals when eaten undiluted as a primary food source for a few months. The dyes may or may not be able to leak through the liquid- and vapor-proof lining of the container into the coffee, so obviously the coffee must be treated as a Class A carcinogen.

      OK, that was snark.

However, I maintain that there are more products on the list of items “known by the State of California to cause cancer” than not, and that there is no such thing as a “known by the State of California to not cause cancer” list.

[cheap Russian accent] “In Soviet Kalifornya, cancer gets you.” [/accent]

Can we stop pretending the governments of the world aren’t out for total control and domination of every aspect of our lives?

    European Union’s spice rules
    Danish Veterinary and Food Administration

Spice rules (and not the Herbert Dune kind) seriously? A matter of personal taste and enjoyment has RULES?
Not just rules but administrations to enforce them, testing them…….yet not a single piece of evidence to show actual harm to a person.
Give up any pretense that your body actually belongs to you and you can do what you want with it.

I find the hypocrisy nearly unbelievable — can’t eat as much cinnamon as you want but you should be able to do as many drugs as you want.
