About Those “Windows Tech Support” Calls

So I’ve been fielding calls from the “Windows Tech Support” Scam all week. My general premise has been to play TOTALLY dumb and jerk them around for as long as I can, because every minute I keep them on the line, that’s a minute they aren’t calling somebody who doesn’t know better.

Still that’s getting old, and I would really want them to just stop, both because it bothers me, and because they ARE still ripping off honest people.

So they get away with this crap by working outside the United States (Generally Calcutta India), and generally I suspect the lead scammers pay the workers shit to steal from honest people who think their computer is compromised.

That got me thinking, it’s not like the saps making these horrible calls are all sociopaths, they probably know they’re stealing, but they’re doing it for the money, which they probably desperately need.

So does anybody know of any law agency that is offering a bounty or reward for somebody who’s willing to fink out the players running this shit?

Either way, I’m going to try and convince the next scammer who calls me to bite the hand that feeds him.

You could tell them you are expecting to come into a lot of money. You’ve just given your bank account information to the widow of a Nigerian Prince who will be transferring money into your account for helping her.

You’ll be willing to share the money if they dish the 411 on their employers.
