SNOWMAGEDDON!

So there is a HUGE snow storm moving through the North East right now. Boston will be essentially shut down. I don’t work in the city on Tuesdays so it won’t be a big deal for me, except for the shoveling. The wife will be home, which will be nice.

Around work we buckled down the lab for a day off, and really the only concern was “Will we have enough to drink!” I always have about 6 months of booze stocked into Casa De Weer’d so that isn’t an issue, and I just finished a rather tasty Daiquiri.

So for those of you in the radius of “Winter Storm Juno”, what will you be drinking?

Be safe out there!

We’ll certainly be getting some use out of this

Hey, Weer’d, what’s your daiquiri recipie? I tried replacing all the simple syrup with triple sec, and it was a little dry for my taste. I was wondering if you still used some simple syrup in it? Or, do you just prefer a really dry drink?

Here’s how I did last night’s. 2 parts white rum, 1 part triple sec, juice from 1/2 a lime. I generally garnish with a maraschino cherry, but last night I decided to do both the Cherry and the lime twist. Nah, skip the twist.

For this drink I really don’t think it matters much if shaken or stirred, but I shook it. I don’t double-strain, so there’s a little bit of lime particulates (my shaker strains out most of the pulp) which gives this drink a heavier mouth feel than say a Manhattan or Martini which I think absolutely must be stirred. With that bit of cloud in the juice you don’t get the smoothness of a stirred drink, but it does seem to accentuate the mouth feel of a good shaken drink.

Well, if it gets really bad, Malibu coconut rum on the rocks.
