Just Anti-Freedom

Isn’t it funny how forces who might consider themselves polar opposites can behave so similarly.

Point one:

A coalition of 141 medical organizations sent a letter to four senior members of the House and Senate Appropriations Committees on Wednesday urging them to restore funding for gun violence research at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Center for DISEASE CONTROL. See the anti-gunners can’t use public safety anymore, because the public is SAFER when they get the hell out of the way. They have been woefully unsuccessful at trying to destroy gun ownership socially, since anti-gunners are just miserable people who want to lecture you on death and destruction, and talk down to experienced gun owners about how they really are too stupid to safely use a gun, or defend their life. Meanwhile pro-gun people CAN supply you with facts and data if you want….but if you don’t we can just take you shooting and we can have a lot of fun in a safe environment.

And from the other side:

Utah Gov. Gary R. Herbert signed two pieces of legislation on Tuesday that aim to combat what’s called “a sexually toxic environment” caused by porn.

“Pornography is a public health crisis. Today I signed two bills that will bring its dangers to light. S.C.R. 9 calls for additional research and education so that more individuals and families are aware of the harmful effects of pornography,” said Herbert on the governor’s Facebook page.
One is technically a resolution, and the other one is a bill:

This resolution declares that pornography is “a public health hazard leading to a broad spectrum of individual and public health impacts and societal harms.”

So a non-binding resolution declaring pornography as a “public health crisis”.

BTW it’s such a “Crisis” that this happened:

A study into how porn affects men had to be scrapped and radically rethought after experts failed to find any young men who had not watched it.

Originally researchers at the University of Montreal wanted to compare the behavior of men who viewed sexually explicit material with those who had never looked at it all.

Professor Simon Louis Lajeunesse says he had to drastically rethink his study after failing to find any male volunteers who had never viewed porn.

Porn is ubiquitous, even in Utah, and guess what, the sky isn’t falling! There are shitty people in shitty relationships, and good people in good relationships, and everything in between, and in the browser history is porn.

All I see is anti-freedom.

Like I tell people who ask what political persuasion I am. I want the Republicans out of my bedroom, the Democrats out of my gun safe and ALL of them out of my wallet.

  2. Archer says:

I believe there are some adverse consequences of porn, but all of them are moral-based. As a conservative Christian, I’m morally opposed to porn, but as an American, I side with freedom. I choose not to view it, but that’s my decision; I can’t and won’t make that decision for others.

You can’t legislate morality. People will either accept it or they won’t — that’s between them and whichever higher power they acknowledge, if any. Unless and until their choices directly affect me or mine, I don’t get to act on them. I can say all I want, of course (the First Amendment does work both ways, after all), but I don’t get to force another person to abide by my moral compass.

    Just my $0.02.
