Bad Test

So looks like a ton of people took this test., and it appears that a LOT of people who read my blog, and who I know personally have a social disorder according to the test. A LOT of you social deviants I’ve spent extended periods of time with in various social setting, several of you I’d count as close personal friends, and a lot of you I’ve chatted with extensivly online. (Which BTW having talked for great lengths of time with people like Joe, Alan, Breda, Mike or Bruce online only, I found that the instant nature of modern electronic communications doesn’t really leave much of a gap when meeting face-to-face, Like when I shared a room with Mike W. at the NRA convention, I had NO idea what he looked like because he doesn’t post pictures of himself, but after that hurdle was clear we were talking like it wasn’t the first time we’d shaken hands…it DOES really suck that we’re all scattered across the countryside that I don’t get to hang out with these people face-to-face often)

I must say, knowing a few people who are diagnosed as on the Autism spectrum, and knowing a few others who are likely on it, I MUST say that the test appears to be deeply skewed. Also it seems that that skew is towards people who wear their big-kid pants. Most of these people are the type of people who would point out to a child, yes, Toy X is REALLY super cool, and it would be AWESOME to have it, but it costs MONEY, and we can’t afford it. Now sub that in to say pointing out to an adult relative or friend that their really cool sports car, or new gadget is likely spending above their means, or going to result in a crippling credit card bill. Now sub that in to the electorate promising a pie in the sky for an ever-growing tax burden.

Or how about not feeling sympathy for the jerk who is all ass-hurt that a black, or a gay, or a Mormon moved in down the street? Or how about saying “I don’t care if you don’t like the fact that I’m carrying a gun.”

If this behavior are symptoms of Asperger’s Syndrome, well I think we need a LOT more of it in society.

That test was made by a published author on Autism. Tainted metric, perhaps ? But at least his other test http://glennrowe.net/BaronCohen/AutismSpectrumQuotient/AutismSpectrumQuotient.aspx tags me as “high functioning” autism.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to watch Wapner. Wapner. Wapner.

Could be he’s pushing his own product. Kinda like those herbalists who are selling xy and z vitamin always seem to find that you’re deficient in such-and-such a product that they just-so-happen to be a vendor for….

Posting here ’cause it cracks me the hell up that you posted a trackback to yourself on the other post. Also I got a 12 ’cause I fuckin’ hate going to parties and making smalltalk with douchenozzles who’ve never held a well-reasoned opinion in their entire damn lives. I don’t mind folks who disagree who’ve done their homework, but if you’re just plain stupid, here’s a nice big mug of go fuck yourself, and I don’t care how many tears fall into it.

(captcha: zykb. Even the captcha thinks zyklon b is a good idea for some people.)

Hey besides self promotion, the mentioned post was all about the responses given in that post, so I believe it was proper referencing.

And in other news, Got my Skype all rockin’ and Rollin’ for VC, you’d best bring those links you were saving up!

Or it could be that certain personalities trend towards doing what we do– disabusing people of false ideas. It’s king of like the question that gets tossed around the IT world– are all IT guys geeks because of their personalities, or is the personality shaped by their environment?

I certainly think people in logic-oriented fields tend to have a totally different outlook at the more arts and cultural jobs.

Like you’ll never see anybody with a science degree every make a Correlation=Causation statement…unless they’re being paid handsomely to do so, of course.

I have to wonder, given a Venn Diagram of “Aspergers” and “asshole”, just how much overlap there might be…

    • Nomen Nescio says:

depends on how you define “asshole”. aspies — from what (admittedly little) i’ve seen of them, anyway — tend to be blind to social cues in a way that can make them unintentionally rude, or seemingly thoughtless. at a first glance that might come across as assholish, even though they genuinely don’t mean any insult.

heck, some folks would call me a low-grade, extremely highly functional aspie. personally i think i’m just a jackass, though.

      • Nomen Nescio says:

oh, yeah, and i apparently scored an 18. but most of the questions i really rather wanted to answer “not applicable” to, since i don’t have enough of a social life to really judge.

  5. Bad test. I’ve lived with a housemate with full-blown Aspergers, and I ain’t it. I’m just grumpy at the world, and not afraid to tell adults that they have to act like it.

  6. Camarath says:

I think that test was build assuming that people will answer mostly with definite options rather than slightly. I got almost a 30 point upswing when I changed all my slightly answers to definites. Being unwilling to fully commit to statements that don’t perfectly describe you is not the same a being non-empathic but it shows up that way in this test.

    • Dixie says:

In that way, it’s like the DSM. On the DSM IV test for autism, I have to answer one question “maybe.” If I answer that question “yes,” then I’m at 7/13, and am considered to be likely autistic.
