Furries in the News

What a ridiculous story.

Police in Idaho Falls said on Tuesday they have told a 34-year-old man to stop wearing a bunny suit in public after residents complained that he has been frightening children.

Its kinda a funny story. I’m deeply amused imagining this guy playing around his back yard in a bunny suit and a pink Tu-tu.

But then I think about the story. Dude’s in his own backyard and while he’s dressed funny, he’s fully dressed and not doing anything dangerous or threatening.

Its nosy neighbors getting into other people’s business, and they’re jerks, plain and simple.

I’m glad I’m friendly with all my neighbors, as bullshit like this can really take the fun out of your day-to-day.

I’d be tempted to say “Show me the ordinance I’m breaking or leave me the hell alone.” to whatever officer showed up to tell me I couldn’t do something in my back yard. Of course, where I live, I target practice in my back yard, so I may not be a good example.

The payoff from the city from the inevitable lawsuit for infringing on a citizen’s First Amendment rights may not be worth all the trouble, but it would certainly poke a finger in their eye.

Yeah I can’t imagine they would have any way to actually enforce it assuming he was in his own hard and not intentionally harassing the kids. He may be strange but our great country was designed to allow you to be as strange as you want as long as you aren’t infringing on other people’s rights.

If only it worked like that (the being left alone if you’re minding your own business on your property bit, I mean).

I’m a little concerned over the oddity of this guy’s behavior, so I would certainly keep my kids away from him. I would consider building a tall fence on my property if it got strange enough. However, he does have the right to do this. If no laws were broken, we should leave him alone.

Remember, adults go to ComicCon in full Klingon costume and we even encourage it!
