“Gun Death” Cable

We don’t have Cable at Casa Weer’d.

The television-obsessed New York man who brutally beat his wife because she did not pay for premium cable channels while he was in the hospital has been charged with killing her, authorities announced Wednesday.

Thomas Scala, of Staten Island, was charged with criminally negligent homicide for causing the death of his 59-year-old spouse, Blanche, by hitting her in the head during a Nov. 26, 2010 fight inside their New Dorp Beach home, according to the Staten Island District Attorney’s office.

Remember you shouldn’t have guns because you could just snap and kill somebody, and if there are no guns, things like this can NEVER happen.

I have lots of guns, but I don’t have cable in my home…this is probably why my wife is alive.

….oh wait, no guns were used? WE MUST BAN CABLE TV! ITS FOR THE CHILDRENZ!!111!!

That’s why we have Satellite TV. Much safer for all concerned. ; )

  2. How do you not have cable? For two years after moving into our current house, my wife and I managed to resist the demon cable. People were constantly bewildered, assuming us to be poor and offering money, trying to buy us cable, and saying that we would eventually cave. My wife’s grandmother then signed a contract for us to get internet and cable for a school gift to my wife.

We said, “thank you,” and proceeded to not watch any of the cable. It really only goes on when my father-in-law is in town and jonesing for some t.v. news.

We have internet, Netflix, and radio. That seems to cover all our bases nicely.

We also don’t have kids, but when we do I don’t feel much need to expose them to hot-and-cold running TV. I find broadcast TV to be far too passive an experience. You sit on the couch and flip and stop when you find something passable to watch.

I much prefer to turn on the TV and watch the show or film I want to watch when I want to watch it, or listen to radio where only one sense is being engaged so all the better for doing other tasks.

I dumped cable as an unnecessary expense years ago, and I’ve never regretted it – especially now, when pretty much anything I might want to watch is available on the internet. It’s money I can waste on other things, instead.

I don’t blame you for not having cable; I haven’t had it since I moved out on my own. I have an antenna which picks up a few stations, but the wife recently took everything apart to clean and I put things back together wrong (resulting in our amplifier giving off some smoke). I haven’t looked back since, although I do sometimes miss “The Woodwright’s Shop.”

However, with many of the brain rotting reality shows nowadays your tongue-in-cheek comment on banning cable wouldn’t be half bad…

  5. HerrBGone says:

Cable TV at the HerrBGone homestead went away in the midst of a billing dispute back around the fifth season of Babylon 5. I haven’t missed it at all. If I actually get my B&B off the ground I may have to give in and get some form of cable or satellite for the guests. But I’m hoping that won’t be necessary.
