Like a Brick Shithouse

Seriously, CRKT makes a HELL of a knife. The Boss today asked me to put a new edge on her Gekkota as it had gone dull and had a few patches of rust from exposure to sea water during a dive trip.

Thought I’d take a group photos of the Gekkotas in my house:

So on the left is the Wife’s that’s seen some keychain use, but overall its received light duty, and has spent a good deal of time on the shelf.

The middle is mine that I’ve had for over a year-and-a-half where its ridden in my pocket with my keys every damn day. The left is the Boss’ knife after I cleaned it up and tossed a fresh edge on the blade.

Honestly there is so little difference between these three knives. One is practically brand new, one had been bouncing with my keys for over a year, and one has been used hard (I got pissed seeing the Boss opening her boxes with her keys, and she wasn’t interested in carrying a proper pocket knife, so this is her ONLY knife, and it gets used almost as often as my EDC knife gets used) and had some exposure to seawater.

Can hardly tell the difference between the three

Go ahead and click that to get the full rez. Does that look like a knife that’s been bouncing against my keys for 1.5 years?

They put some crazy Devil Magic in these knives!

Hmmm very interesting… my idea of a “Brick Shithouse” and yours weer’d… well, they vary quite a bit I must say 😉

BTW nice rack on that knife !

How do you define it? Around here outhouses are permanent and built out of wood, and often so lose that you can still see what you’re doing during daylight hours. And we all know those flimsey fiberglass ones that are so easy to tip over while your buddy is taking a dump.

For one to be made of Brick is a sign of amazing over-engineering and permanence.

I’ve yet to own a CRKT knife. A fiend picked up a model I’m very interested in and I’m thinking I’ll get one for myself now that my AR build is wrapping up.

I’ve got one of their Doug Ritter Survival Kit knives, but I like the look (and price) of this one. Looks like it would make a great addition to my keychain.

Yeah I have mine on my keychain to replace the bottle opener I carried for years. Now I have an opener when I have a beer in my hand but no opener, but also a screwdriver, a light pry bar, and a decent little blade.

I generally have a pocket knife so the bade only gets used when I forget my knife. But I use the driver and opener all the damn time.

Well, the toolmarks from the face mill run across the top of the lizard are about halfway gone – But no wear that really matters. I picked one up myself after you mentioned them here a while back, And couldn’t be more pleased. That stubby little blade looks funny but is just right for all sorts of stuff. It’s replaced my two blades-and-screwdrivers Swiss army knife for about 98% of pocketknife work.

I’ve had a couple of CRKT knives; hold an edge well, solidly made, and don’t cost a fortune
