Like Clockwork

This comment lead me to this page.

Again Robert Farago stealing the works of others, and then being rude and disrespectful when asked to give attribution or take it down. I’m not one to look into the legality of this, the works stolen from me was a gift-banner from reader Bluesun and rides at the mast-head of a blog I do purely for fun and for the good of the cause. I don’t have any damages for it, and I suspect Farago will fight any claim made against him incurring damages of time and treasure to me. Instead It doesn’t take much effort to point out that if Mr. Farago IS in the legal right using the images he takes without attribution, permission, and often with the expressed disapproval of the rightful owner, it shows clearly that he views all others in the community with open contempt.

If you read The Truth About Guns, I must ask you, Why?

Oh BTW Mr. Toombs, who has raised this current complaint appears to be quite the photographer, he also has a really neat blog here that has some neat photos and gunnie goodness.

Keep us posted, Ben. But in the least, pass the word on about your experiences with this swine.

**UPDATE**
Linoge points out more discussion here. The Truth is the LAST thing The Truth About Guns wants us to hear.

  1. Mission
TTAG explores the ethics, morality, business, politics, culture, technology, practice, strategy, dangers and fun of guns.

I have never been to this blog before, but if what you say it true, that behavior certainly isn’t ethical or moral, even if it may be legal. The above line is from there page. If they are stealing others works, ideas, etc, they should maybe adjust their mission statement.

    • Weerd Beard says:

I agree his claims and mission statements are 100% false, he’s also a pretty well documented bald-face liar (one of the best was when he said on one blog that he always asked permission before cribbing materiel, while stealing from another within hours of that statement….he’s told some whoppers to my face as well.)

But of course he’s also an anti-social troll, so any reasonable requests will be met with ignorance at best, and rudeness at worst. Certainly he has no intentions of changing his stripes.

I used to go to ttag often but after finding out that they have no respect for personal property rights (and can be assumed no actual respect for 2A) i stopped though I must admit to following their twitter feed.

    • Weerd Beard says:

I follow several anti-gun twitter feeds. Often they re-tweet TTAG tweets.

That being said, I’ve looked at Farago’s twitter feed, and its mostly just notification of updates to the blog…which is a post you read the day before.

Don’t even go there, got better things to do, and sooner or later, somebody is going to pound his ass in the ground…

  4. I used to, before I knew any better. First clue was some of the articles were a bit anti-gun, then I started noticing all the posts referencing them and their dickheadedness, then I unsubscribed. I’m still surprised when I click a link from a different blog and it leads to a review there.

  5. Tango says:

Image was removed on TTAG’s site. I know, I know… but to test compliance, one has to view the page. I did turn on AdBlock, though!

What is needed is for Glenn Reynolds to notice. So you have to weigh ignoring bad behavior, and promoting it so the right people notice.

    • Weerd Beard says:

I have exactly zero clout with Mr. Reynolds. I know he interviewed you in Pittsburgh, if you’d like to forward a request It would be for the best for everybody, including Mr. Farago who is certainly letting his blog write checks his ass can’t cash.

You have my blessing for forward any Weer’d World content you feel makes the point.

      Thanks in advance.

  8. As I said before, I think he’s stirring the pot to drive numbers. I think he’s taken a hit in popularity as this stuff gets around so he’s having to inflate his monthly stats by pissing people off.

  9. Thanks Weerd — I had removed TTAG from my RSS feed months ago (during the Tam incident), but forgot to “unlike” his Facebook page.

And the Reddit thread is nice. And I agree with the DMCA approach — the next time he steals, whoever he tags shouldn’t ask nicely, but go straight for the take-down.
