Cato DGU Map

Reader Cargosquid sent me a link to this map of compiled Defensive gun uses, it’s very thin right now I assume because its new, I’ll be tossing in a few stories not covered that I have in my DGU files.

One story it DOES have is the story of the New Hampshire Store Clerk who was fired and re-hired when he stopped a robbery I talked about this morning. I remembered wrong when I said it was a 7-Eleven, it was a Cumberland Farms

A store clerk fired for bringing a gun to work has a new job at another store.

Bruce Soiett said that he always brings his .45-caliber handgun to work. He used to work at a Cumberland Farms in Greenland, and on Dec. 7, the store was robbed at gunpoint. When the thief ran, Soiett followed him.

“I yelled at him to stop, and he turned with the gun,” Soiett said. “I fired two quick shots because I thought he was going to shoot at me.”

No one was hit, and the robber was never caught. Soiett lost his job because Cumberland Farms has a no-weapon policy. The owner of the Exit 3 Travel Stop in Portsmouth was happy to hire him.

“We feel more comfortable having people who can stand up for themselves,” store owner Bharat Batel said.

That was a good story! Also I missed the bit about the store owners hiring the guy being Indian. Immigrants are BIG into protecting what’s theirs.

So look at the Map and see if you can add a few stories.

Wasn’t it Caleb (I forget) that threw coffee on an assailant and then drew? Cato needs a COFFEE defense map.

I really need to do a search BEFORE writing stuff. Yep it was Caleb. Did you know that there’s this thing called “Google?” You can look stuff up on it. What will they think of next?

I hate to be “that person” but I have to question the intelligence of chasing after someone you know is armed when all they’ve done is robbed your employer’s store.

Yes, it’s totally different if it’s YOUR hard-earned property, or if they hurt someone else. But if all they’ve done is lighten the register… well, I don’t think I’d risk getting shot over someone else’s money.

    That said? Good shooting.

    But… but… but… DGUs NEVER happen!

    I know because… well… I just KNOW.

Just submitted a recent DGU from around Lubbock, TX. A homeowner and his companion had hired a man to do some handy work around their home. He went and the police think he was stealing firearms. The homeowner and friend walked in in the middle of the day, and shooting erupted. Burglar dead, homeowner seriously wounded, companion wounded but in satisfactory condition. If the homeowner had not been CHL carrying, there would have been 2 murders, according to a recent story on the local news.
