FPS Russia Shaming

Mike at ENDO has been doing it for ages, but overall I’ve stayed out of the fray.

Still this video needs to be watched and understood for its stupidity

He was contemplating wearing a ballistic vest for a test where one pellet penetrated, and his cameraman takes some potentially lethal shrapnel. Couple this with his aversion to eye and ear protection, its only a matter of time before somebody gets dead or permanently maimed.

Demitri, smarten up. You can still do fun and cool stuff with guns, just be safe. Hell watch any episode of the Mythbusters! These guys get behind Lexan shields when there’s even the possibility of shrapnel or danger (and I can’t recall ever seeing those shields get harmed when they’re used to protect people), and their show is one of the most popular ones out there!

His real name isn’t Dimitri, it’s Kyle. He’s not from Russia, he’s a good ol’ boy from Georgia.

And yeah, he’s going to get someone killed some day, and these videos will be played to the jury.

Well aware of that (all his info is on his wikipedia page), I just wanted to keep the address professional, and less harsh, because he is a pro-gun force that is net-positive….but won’t be if he gets somebody killed.

Yeah, that the guy doesn’t do ear protection is a huge red flag. Even if you never have an “incident” the *best* you can hope for is cumulative damage to your hearing that will make your life suck as you get older.

As for eye protection… that’s playing the odds game in a dopey way.

And Mythbusters has had safety “oppsies” before. Like when they had a cannon ball escape a range that was suitable for what they were doing. But for the most part they are pretty safe.

    • Weerd Beard says:

I chalk that up to dumb luck, really. They were on a range, and I suspect they had consultants who all agreed the ball wouldn’t do what it did, dumb luck happens to everybody!

His ‘accent’ is slipping horribly in spots — he almost sounds midwestern in a couple of spots.

Yeah a lot of people take issue that “Dimitri” is a character, and not a real man…but that’s why his videos are a hit. I’m pretty sure Youtube is his full-time job. How can we fault him that?

I just wish he’d have his fun in a more responsible manner. Just look at the videos of Jeff Zimba from Maine. He’s shooting exploding stuff with machine guns, but he’s doing it with full protection (Ears are optional when he’s using suppressors of course), and I find those videos VASTLY more interesting. Hickock45 also has a lot of good safe fun with his guns, and is on a similar popularity level as Dimitri. The two aren’t mutually exclusive.

What I have to wonder is whether he is using some kind of hearing protection that goes deep into the ear or possibly is colored to be invisible on camera. If he isn’t, it’s a wonder that he isn’t deaf now.

I can’t remember which video it was, but he straight up stated that he doesn’t believe hearing protection is necessary unless you’re at an indoor range. Even scarier is that he was firing a 30’06 at the time.
