I Wonder if He’s Bluffing

Obama is making gun control a priority:

President Obama pledged Sunday to make gun control a top priority in his second term and vowed to put his “full weight” behind such legislation.

Besides getting elected president I don’t think I’ve seen Obama put his “full weight” on anything in his life. I’ll even say that for his second presidential run.

Obama said Sunday he would not prejudge recommendations. But he said he was skeptical about the only answer being to put armed guards in schools, as the National Rifle Association has suggested.

The president instead vowed to rally Americans around an agenda to limit gun violence, adding he still supports increased background checks and bans on assault weapons and high-capacity bullet magazines.

And have any of those things “limited gun violence”? The numbers say “No”, but it won’t stop them from saying it. Gun control, like many other “Progressive” agenda items is more of a religious fanaticism, than actual reason.

What do you think?

  1. Robert Evans says:

He’s probably not bluffing, his gun control record pre-presidency is well documented, and he’s managed to place two anti-gun Justices on the Supreme Court so far. His ability to predict success or failure of an endeavor is dubious at best; he predicted that the surge of troops in Iraq would fail, so his belief that armed guards in schools won’t work should be taken with a grain of salt, at the very least.

I’m glad that he has made this pledge. Hopefully this puts it in the running with closing Gitmo and cutting our deficit in half.

  3. Bob S. says:

Let’s assume that he is bluffing; what should our actions be?

I suggest the same as if he isn’t bluffing; call our Senators, Representatives and the President and tell them in no uncertain terms ” No New Gun Control Laws”.

Let’s keep this the ‘3rd rail’ of politics that no one wants to touch. Doesn’t it make sense to call, to email? If they receive an abundance of support for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms now, it will play into their calculations if they ever try for real.

      Well said, Bob!

      100% agree.

    • Jack says:

The marginal cost for us to call and write is low enough that we should regardless.

I’m sure Obama has a similar thinking. Where if he gets a gun law now, later, or never he still comes out ahead. His base is “doing something” and he has a chance to win real big or maybe just get some more “Blame the Republicans”. Or at least personally doesn’t lose much.

I will not submit. I aim to misbehave.

“…..I don’t think I’ve seen Obama put his “full weight” on anything in his life. ”

You haven’t been watching him play golf then.
That’s all he worried about for the first four years. He put every bit of energy he had in to playing golf in nice expensive vacation spots.

The absolute best thing he can hope for is for nothing at all in the gun control arena.
No matter how much “gun control” he actually got, his base wouldn’t be satisfied. Look how much crap the left still gives him over his health care bill and other idiocy he campaigned on, none of it was “left” enough.
If he pushes it, and nothing happens, he can blame it all on the Republicans, (because what else is the Republican party actually good for anymore?) and the lefties will still be unhappy, but they will still be lauding his efforts.

If he passes some huge gun control bill, then I am sure we will see a huge overturn in two years of every single politician that votes for the bill. If the law went to court and was struck down as un-constitutional, then he would be on record for having actively violated the constitution (more than he already has), and bad things would result.

He needs to sit there and blow smoke to his base, then get back to his golf game, Hawaii is waiting for him to come back.
