Iowa Mess

I think this sets a trend.

Romney defeats Santorum by 8 votes in Iowa

Essentially there are two kinds of Republican Primary voters. The Establishment people who vote for whoever came in 2nd place last time, without even wondering if they’d make a good president or not….and the people dumb enough to think there’s actually anybody better out there.

Romney has the Momentum of a party that has produced such amazing statesmen as Bob Dole, George W. Bush, and John McCain (see a trend here?) and the others guys aren’t any better, but the people are SEARCHING.

Santorum is the king of the fag-bashing losers, and he hasn’t garnered any support…well until the people who KNOW they dislike Romney but have been disgusted by Bachman, Perry, Cain, and Gingrich.

Now the interesting question is will they actually consider Ron Paul (I’ll be voting for him in the Massachusetts Primary) or will they simply chose to elect yet another George Bush/Barack Obama politician.

Santorum won’t last, nobody really likes him, and the attacks have already started, so the question is, is it Romney, and will people who dislike Obama vote for the Gun-banning Author of Obamacare?

Me? I’ll be voting for Obama in November, knowing with a clear conscience that I voted for the lesser of two evils.

What this country needs is a brutal GOP defeat so maybe these Authoritarian assholes will get the message.

  1. It is absolutely mind boggling that this is the best our country has to offer. I am at a complete loss,. For the first time since I was 18, I am thinking of not voting. Sending a message or not, I can not vote for the guy currently in office, but my other choices are so awful, I just don’t think I can bring myself to vote for any of them and still sleep at night.

    • Weerd Beard says:

I can understand that. Honestly I hate to NOT vote (Tho for small local positions I have been known to abstain because of pure ignorance, as I won’t vote at random) and this election season (including Scott Brown’s turn to ultra-left politics and active attack on the 2nd Amendment) It’s awakening an angry anarchist in me.

I’m pissed and I want to burn it all to the ground so we can start from scratch, because we can’t rebuild anything worse.

      • Jay G. says:

I’ll state right now, for the record, that if Romney gets the nod, I will do two things:

        1. I will vote for Barack Obama in November 2012. I will do this because the idiots in Congress will reflexively block anything Obama puts up – but they’ll rubberstamp anything RINO Romney puts out. See Act, Patriot.

        2. I will go out of my way to go down to the town hall and change my political affiliation to unenrolled. After more than half of my life as a Republican – my entire adult life – I will renounce the party that gave us Ronald Reagan.

Seriously, guys, Mitt effin’ Romney is the best we can do? This is worse than Bob Dole, John McCain, *or* the Dems putting up John effin’ Kerry…

It’s going to be Giant Douche vs. Turd Sandwich all over again.

  3. Jake says:

Assuming Gary Johnson gets the Libertarian nomination, I’ll be voting for him. He may not have a real chance of winning, since he won’t be one of the Big Two parties, but he’s someone I can vote for, rather than holding my nose and voting against someone.

Obama winning is my second preferred outcome, because I’d rather have him in office with an opposing Republican-controlled Congress than Romney, Santorum, or any of the currently likely Republican candidates with a Republican-controlled Congress that will support them blindly. Like Jay said:

I will do this because the idiots in Congress will reflexively block anything Obama puts up โ€“ but theyโ€™ll rubberstamp anything RINO Romney puts out. See Act, Patriot.

(Side note – Interestingly enough, I tried to go to the “issues” page for Rick Santorum, and it redirects to a donations page – with no way to get to the rest of the site. Going to the main page does the same thing. I think that says something about him right there – and it’s not something good.)

    • Weerd Beard says:

Rick’s issues page just says “Kill the FAGS!! And That Means YOU Jake!”

      I hope you didn’t donate! 8)

      • Jake says:

I figured. ๐Ÿ™‚ I just wanted to see what he’s actually claiming as his position for the election.

And nope, I haven’t donated to anyone this year.

        • Weerd Beard says:

The only politician I donated to was Scott Brown. And when I say “only” I mean ONLY. He broke me of that habit. I also had thought of tossing Fred Thompson, and Hermon Cain a few bux too. I’m glad I didn’t and I wish Scott Brown unemployment and a dishonorable Discharge.

        • Weerd Beard says:

Oh and BTW I’ll certainly be taking a hard look at Gary Johnson, and I suspect there probably isn’t much to make him the best on the ballot for me.

And likely at worst it means four more years of Obama which isn’t as bad as Rewarding the GOP for this shit.

          • Jake says:

“I suspect there probably isnโ€™t much to make him the best on the ballot for me.”

Did you mean “there isn’t much needed” or “there isn’t much likely to“? ๐Ÿ™‚

          • Weerd Beard says:

Jesus, with this lineup I don’t even know what I’m saying or thinking anymore

Ask me again in 6 months! ๐Ÿ˜€

santorum only got that much support in Iowa because he was the last of the not-romneys standing. had the caucus taken place two weeks later, then his turn as not-romney would have been up just like all the others have ended, and he’d’ve been another also-ran.

that said, i don’t know that i’ll cast a vote for president this november. there doesn’t seem to be anybody running worth my vote, and i got sick of voting for the lesser evil after doing it just once. i was ranting endlessly on other people’s blogs, back in ’08, about how obama wasn’t my dream candidate by any measure and i was only voting for him because mccain would’ve been so much worse — well, i’ve had my fill of disappointment and kicking myself since then. i can’t hold my nose a second time, voting for the lesser evil is still voting for evil, and i’m too much of an idealist.

romney’s a weathervane who’ll shamelessly support anyone who buys him, and stay bought exactly until somebody else offers him a better deal. i’d not be able to look myself in the mirror after giving that sort of person any support. that’s before you get into his more distasteful, too-conservative tendencies, to wit.

obama… has been an absolute disaster for our civil rights, and isn’t that just too bloody ironic for the country’s first “black” president. piling bad on top of worse, he’s not even managed to fix the economy while wiping his arse on the bill of rights.

i may have to write in bernie sanders. except he’s too smart to actually run for the oval office — which is a strong sign in his favor, i’d say.

  6. Cargosquid says:

Of course, Romney only won because of a 16% crossover. Paul got 48% of the “independents” that registered Republican the day of the caucus.

8 votes between him an Santorum? And you know that Santorum got very little crossover?

Romney has hit his limit. He can’t break 25%. And now he’s getting the kiss of death….McCain is endorsing him.

New Hampshire is going to be interesting.

So, howz’a’bout Perry? Is he better than Obama?

    • Weerd Beard says:

I won’t vote for Perry. The man can’t even keep his shit together for a debate what makes you think he’ll run the office any better.

He’s good on guns, but not on much else, and I really don’t like his stance on illegal immigration.
