Landfall

We made awesome time. Only real traffic was in Northern Virginia. Took us just shy of 13 hours including breaks.

Weather is nice, and we all slept well. Time to get our bearings and see the sites.

I’ll keep you posted of our plans so possibly we can get an informal meet-up.

Welcome to Virginia. Pull of a chair. Stay a while.

    Like….you know….forever. You’ll like it.

Pull UP a chair….edit THEN post. Need coffee.

  3. SGB says:

    Have a safe visit.

Remember, you are in the SOUTH. Do NOT bring up Joshua Chamberlin and Gettysburg while down there. Robert E. Lee is a GOD, okay? Be Nice and Polite to EVERYONE, or else you get the “DamnYankee” treatment. And don’t even THINK about breaking any Laws. Some places down there still use the Chain Gang. Trust me, you don’t want to run into that Sheriff who tells you “What we have here is a Failure to Communicate, Boy.” ; )

    Weerd,
I’m curious because I’ve never been in that part of the country. How many roads did you travel that required a toll fee? If any, what was your one-way tally?

I mean this as a serious question. In 11 lustrums, I’ve never been required to pay a toll, but I’ve heard horror stories from some of my east-coast friends.

I hope that you have a great trip.

    • RWC says:

The main tolls would be by the coast, but those really don’t save that much time. There are other roads like the ‘greenway’ between local cities that are empty because they charge too much. The last time i missed a turn and had to get on it was about 6 years ago…and it was about 2.75 to go three miles.

    • Weerd Beard says:

Toll roads are all over the east coast. Couldn’t tell you the total as we have an EZ Pass, but we went through a ton of gates heading down.

Welcome to every day of my life.

Hope you have a great time in the Commonwealth. But please forgive our traffic planners.

As a Virginian, I have to disagree. What our traffic planners have done is unforgivable. I would, however, ask that you do not hold the rest of us accountable for their incompetence. 🙂

Sorry, but I have to navigate one of the more egregious examples of their idiocy every freakin’ day – twice – and I deal with a close second to that one about once a week (usually driving an ambulance). I’m a bit… opinionated on the subject.
