Concord Proposes Cat Leash Law
Wednesday night, voters at Concord’s town meeting will vote on a new leash law – for cats.
Lydia Lodynsky tells The Boston Globe that the bylaw that would be similar to one already in town for dogs…Lodynsky would sit outside in her yard to mourn. It was then she noticed the cats, and one by one, they would pick off birds, including a morning dove, a cardinal, and a black cap chickadee, according to the paper.
Now, one of the warrants on Concord’s town meeting tackles the idea of cats running loose. The Globe says that if a cat was to wander onto a yard, and the land owner doesn’t object, than there would be no issue.
She is right about one thing, cats are hunters and they do catch and kill a lot of small animals, often for sport. That being said we already have a similar ordinance…the law of nature. If you cat is out wandering the law of nature will be enforced by your local authorities.
The owners seemed to have taken them down, but my street had around 4 different “Missing Cat” signs up last fall. The cat isn’t “Missing” FYI.
**UPDATE** I missed this gem from the same meeting:
The town of Concord has banned the sale of bottled drinking water in town beginning in 2011.
“We only have one planet and I just don’t want to see it spoiled,” said Jean Hill, who introduced the measure at Concord’s Town Meeting.
Hill said that New York, Illinois and Virginia, as well as more than 100 cities, have taken action to cut spending on bottled water.
The measured passed by Concord would allow the sale of refillable containers of water, which could still be sold and delivered in town. Only plastic bottles that companies cannot reuse would be banned.
Anti-freedom, people! Remember Mommy .Gov knows best for you! Concord is LOUSY with moonbats!
BTW these morons don’t understand that people who drink bottled water can still get it by DRIVING to the neighboring towns to buy the same stuff, then hauling it home. You know, burning fossil fuels, as well as the local businesses who can’t compete with those who have the freedom to sell what their customers want.
This is “Progress” in “Progressive”. You wonder why I refuse to write it without the quotes.
Run..
Far and fast..
Before the “git ya”!!!
i absolutely abhor the neighborhood wanderers. i have no qualms about trapping them and dumping them at the shelter.
Weerd,
A judge has just banned all shooting at the Scituate Rod & Gun club. Articles are in The Patriot-Ledger (heh) and The Globe. Case of a bunch of yuppie lib-tards moving into an area, then complaining about the club that has been in place for eighty years, claiming stray shots come out of the club and impact the houses.

I don’t think there is a single gun club in this state that isn’t under constant attack by dumb yuppies who didn’t read their property sales agreement.
Its sad that sometimes the dumb yuppies win.
…and i hit post too soon. i’d rather trap’em than let “nature” take its course, at least in Baltimore, because “nature” here involves either a car or a sadistic kid.
I’m sure Baltimore has Coyotes too that are more than willing to turn Mr. Mittens into poop too!
If not, the feral dogs will!
not in the city, we don’t. they’re up in the county. the biggest thing we’ve got is fox (and opossum).
I wonder if the town is going to remain philosophically consistent when there is a major natural disaster and .gov shows up to distribute water in — bottles.
Are the residents who approve of the measure going to tell them to go away and come back with it in eco-friendly containers?
Some how…..I doubt it.
It really is a shame that the feds would ignore such an important law. HOME RULE! that’s what I say HOME RULE! (bangs cup on table)
Heh… Let them hoist themselves upon their own petard.

This stuff is too absurd to make up.

Where’s the common sense? Those crazy cat people that oppose every reasonable cat control proposal — like licensing and registration of cats and kittens, mandatory cat safes and locks, restricting claws to rear paws only — are the ones responsible for the rising song-bird body count.
On a more serious note, it’s sad when the Boston Globe can’t make a distinction between an early-rising bird (morning dove) and an actual species (mourning dove).
“Hill said that New York, Illinois and Virginia, as well as more than 100 cities, have taken action to cut spending on bottled water.”
Really? I haven’t seen that here in Virginia. It might be a one line item in the budget and since the gov’t needs to cut spending….I’m glad that they’ve decided to just drink out of the hose like the rest of us.
But dihydrogen monoxide is incredibly dangerous! It must be! I read about it on the internet!!!!one!
Concord? As in Lexington and…
What the heck has happened to the cradle of liberty that once stood upon those grounds?
Joe Kennedy Sr was crowned King of New England, and then the Tories that were driven from the state were allowed to take over.
