They aren’t coming for your guns…
The Honduran Congress has voted to ban the carrying of weapons in a region beset by land disputes and drug-trafficking violence.
The measure covers Colon province, on the country’s Caribbean coast, and home to some of the country’s most productive farmland.
The new law prohibits the possession of guns in public, but exempts police, soldiers and private guards.
Honduras has the world’s highest murder rate: 86 murders per 100,000 people.
The measure passed by Honduran legislators cancels gun permits and also prohibits transporting weapons in vehicles in Colon.
The area has seen a jump in violence, attributed in part to drug gangs operating there.
Oh yeah I can see drug gangs totally obeying that law and going along to get along! Also nice that they ban guns on FARM LAND! Good for them.
And private security is exempt! Rules for Thee…not for me!
Remember, the Private Security Guards are for the Big Landowners whom the Peasants feel stole their Land, not to protect the Jefe’s from the Drug Gangs.
Don’t think of it like the “Magnificent Seven.” The situation is more like “A Fistful of Dollars.”
Even in “A Fistfull of Dollars” the Stranger was really working for the innocent people stuck in the crossfire at the end.
These security guards are simply working for the highest dollar, and I suspect what they’re willing to do for it is quite great given the lack of laws in the area.
“working for the highest dollar….”
At what point do the “security guards” become “mercenaries”? Yep, right about there. And of course the “little people” in the area can’t afford to be the top payer….
I suspect here the difference between “Private Security” and “Mercenaries” is the difference between “Duvet” and “Blanket”.
Once again disarming the law abiding while the criminals (who, by definition, ignore laws) keep their guns. Thus putting the people even more at the mercy of the criminal element.
s
The name of the place is Colon.
Okay.
With what must travel through there, they’re taking their guns away?
😉
Not sure I’d want guns in my Colon…
