Where My Vote is Going, and Why

So refreshing to see clam, rational Libertarians running a campaign rather than the standard fringe anarchists.

Also gotta respect the 5% idea. Get that Libertarian party in the mix to fight against the big-government dogma of both the Democrats and the RINOs. Hell if they get 5% I wonder if the Republican party will survive much longer simply because like the Whigs and the Democrats in the 1850, the two-parties we have now are pretty much the same.

As far as Obama and Romney, I could care less which of them wins, they’ll BOTH be horrible.

I’ve been excited about Gary Johnson from early on. I actually discussed his politics with a few peopke that lived in NM for his entire term. Even my Commie/Lefty inlaws like him. He’s actually a near ideal candidate, so of course he cant win. I told my wife early on that he could won a general election, but NEVER the primary. Plus I like the irony of the Libertarian Party getting federal election funds; Im expecting some heads to explode over that.

It is completely consistent with libertarian principles to use resources that you are already paying for. We hear that joke often about how libertarians should never drive on public roads… The point is rather that you shouldn’t be forced to pay for something that you don’t want. So long as the government is taking money from the people and giving it to election funds, libertarians have every right to take that money and spread the message that this money belongs to the people and that it is up to them to individually decide which campaigns they want to donate to.

I hear ya! Still just look at the love these posts get!

Also interesting that the guy who lives in Massachusetts doesn’t see Romney as much better than Obama, meanwhile the people in New Mexico speak well for Johnson. I’m just sayin’

Why I’ve just removed your blog from my bookmarks: http://blog.ushanka.us/2012/10/quote-of-day_24.html

    • McThag says:

You seem to think you’ve explained yourself, but you didn’t.

    • Linoge says:

I doubt Weer’d will be terribly heart-broken with this news.

Oh, and I already voted for Johnson, so do us all a favor and remove me from your bookmarks. If I was there. Which just goes to show how much I care about your bookmarks.

      • Weerd Beard says:

Nope, if he really feels that way, I guess we aren’t a good fit for each other.

        • Karl says:

Nope, Walls wasn’t in bookmarks. Black background isn’t very bright, if you know what I mean.

Glad the libertarians didn’t throw it for Romney. Instead, Romney’s team dropped the ball.

You guys can go back to smoking dope and telling yourselves that when someone asks “Heads or Tails?”, you’ll reply “Gary Johnson”. You’re as much a non-factor in American politics as the stuff I’ve scraped off my shoes.

  3. motomed says:

you’ll be far less proud of your gary johnson vote when there’s 5 elena kagan’s on the supreme court….

    • Jake says:

What, you think that any of the justices that matter are really going to retire during an Obama presidency? If they have to, they’ll come back as zombies and shamble up to the bench just to deny him a pick and “maintain the balance of the Court.”

I’d rather bet on them staying alive and healthy for four years than bet on Romney picking acceptable replacements.

  4. Linoge says:

Yup, the 5% milemarker for getting a third party candidate federal funding was more than enough for me to know that voting Johnson was the correct and right thing to do, in addition to all of the other reasons to vote for him. He has a snowball’s chance in a fusion reactor of actually winning, but his attempt to do so will give Americans better choices in the future, and I can live with that.

    • Weerd Beard says:

Hell the #1 reason why I’m voting for him is because he’s a candidate who I would love to see as president, and I really don’t want the blood on my hands from electing those OTHER goons.

When it was down to Newt and Mitt, I was really considering voting for Obama, but I really couldn’t bring myself to do something THAT awful.

But for those giving me hate, I’ve SEEN Romney in action here in Mass…you’re really fooling yourself if you think he’s ANY better. And given that Obama likes to vacation and make speeches more than anything else, and Romney likes to draft laws, there is a LOT to fear in a President Romney.

    • Jake says:

Plus, reaching the 5% mark gives the LP automatic ballot access in 2016 in all 50 states, so they won’t have to waste time, effort, and money gathering signatures and fighting lawsuits just to even qualify. That’s probably worth even more than the federal funding.

  5. Jack says:

    There’s also the selfish mathematics.

Weerd lives in Massachusetts. So it’s not like what he can do will get Romney more EV’s. Or even remove EV’s from Obama.

All a Romney vote from him would do is pad up Romney’s Popular vote total.

Which granted could, in theory, give Romney a bigger Pop vote buffer over Obama.

Though despite Bush-Gore and NPV the Progs don’t give a crap about Popular Vote.
Not if the votes come in and they lose it.

On the other hand, a vote for LP could go to the 5% roll.

  6. Bubblehead Les says:

Well, Mopar brought up a very good point at the last N.E. Blogshoot. In certain States, there has been so much Political Gerrymandering over the Decades, that ANY Vote for someone other than Obama is a waste. But if the Libertarians get enough Votes, they get the Magic 5% for the next Election.

So I’m urging everyone who’s “Stuck Behind Enemy Lines” to Vote Libertarian. Putting in a Valid Third Party into Congress would really help a lot in teaching the Republitards and the DemaCommies that it’s no longer “Business as Usual.”

But if one lives in a “Battleground” State like I do in Ohio, I recommend voting for Romney.

Because I fear what will happen AFTER Obama gets a Second Term.

    • Weerd Beard says:

You have a VERY good point with that. People in solid red or blue states, their vote ONLY counts for the popular vote which isn’t valid in our political system (and rightfully so, if you ask me. If not for the Electoral College, people who don’t live in the few largest cities would become irrelevant in national politics).

In that case a 3rd party vote could do some solid good. I mean, its not like ANYBODY here is arguing that Mitt Romney will be the greatest President in history, or that he’ll be one of the biggest tyrants in American History.

But yeah, Swing states, your vote can make a HUGE difference in who is the next President.

  7. Silver the Evil Chao says:

YAY, I thought I was the only person I knew voting for Gary Johnson…especially since my Facebook newsfeed keeps getting bombarded with “any vote that’s not Romney is for Obama!” kind of crap. *eyeroll* 😀

I really, really hope he gets enough votes to just destroy the American political status quo. That might make some of the idiot politicians shake in their boots a bit…

  8. Joe in PNG says:

I’m not wasting my vote on a 3rd party, and here’s why.

I once was a Libertarian, but I changed to Republican a few years ago. Why? First, as Florida is a closed primary state, if I’m not a Repub, I don’t get to vote in the primaries. And I don’t get a little say in who the candidates for offices other than President are.

Next, the Libertarian party is a nice idea, but how many people do they have in actual political office? As Official By Rand Libertarians, not Republican libertarians like Ron Paul. If the party can’t win governor’s offices, congressional seats, or enough Senators to qualify for a group rate, how are they about to supersede one of the big parties? I should live so long to see it happen.

And finally, face it. There is a bit of the fanatical tinfoil hatted truther loon aura around the party. Add that to the reset nihilist (one who hopes the US goes tango uniform), the Church of Ayn, and fringe anarchist stoners, and you have a crowd whom I’d be reluctant to lend my bike to, much less put in charge. And each trying to purge the other for being insufficiently ideologically pure.

    • Weerd Beard says:

FYI I’m a registered Republican. Still Mitt Romney doesn’t represent me. Also Mitt Romney caused more harm my way of life than his Democrat successor. Simple reason is that Mitt Romney is a Go-Getter and goal oriented man, Deval Patric is a lazy fame-seeker more interested in enjoying the lime light than passing laws.

I see President Obama as the same way.

      • Joe in PNG says:

I’m thinking less about Tuesday, and more about 4 years from now, and what role the Libertarian party is going to play then. Currently, they’re the Zima of American politics, and very likely to stay that way.
And, to be frank, is doing bugger all to help stop our current sprint into insolvency. It’s still my belief that they would do a lot more good if they were to do for liberty, small government, and strict Constitutionalism what the NRA did for gun rights.
        Because it works.
