And it has some tie-in to the Super Mario Brothers Movie, which I love in a messed up sort of way!
Also check out the pitch-bend Keyboard solo at 2:14! How badass is that! Once I get a little bit better at Piano I’m getting me a board with a pitch bend!
I know what you mean about the SMB movie. Very different, but oddly appealing in a twisted sense.
Did you know someone’s made a webcomic sequel?

At the moment, it looks like the other pages are 404, but if it gets fixed, I might read it again.
Interesting, the page isn’t loading for me, but I’d love to read it.
Also what REALLY amazes me is that the SMB movie was NOT an orphan script. There are a ton of movies out there that were supposed to be stand-alone features, but were hastily re-written to fix existing cannon of a series (Die Hard 4 is probably one of the best examples, it was a stand-alone where a special forces vet foils the hacking plot, hence why John McClain can fly a helicopter!)
The movie is just so surreal, odd, and only vaguely like the games….yet this was all intentional. I always assumed it was some drugged-out 80s remake of “Through the Looking Glass”, or maybe a Bill and Ted spin off time travel movie…but no, Mario and Luigi were always the protagonists of this odd film.
Also Leguizamo, Hoskins, Hopper, Mojo Nixon, Fisher Stephens, and a cameo by Lance Henrikson, AMAZING it was such a turd. Still from what I read Leguizamo and Hoskins were out-of-their-mind drunk for most of the filming.
