Super Rifle Showdown!

Neat Little video

They’re really both great rifles, and I like his objectivity. Also his ruling based on what rifle he reaches for when he’s going out or hitting the range is probably the best personal endorsement one can give. I knew when I was dragging my SKS to the range and leaving my AK behind it was time to sell the AK.

Still, at the price both of these rifles are commanding, I don’t know if I wouldn’t be better off just buying an AR-15 for half to a quarter the price and calling it good.

The question I asked about both of them, “What does it do that a much cheaper AR doesn’t?”

    Still don’t have an answer.

    • Weerd Beard says:

Fucking NOTHING. The only real difference between them is: A)Polymer Construction B)Side-folding stock C) Piston system….which kinda solves a problem that doesn’t really exist.

The side-folding is the only REAL difference.

      • McThag says:

Plus, did you notice that neither the SCAR or the ACR has a bayonet lug?

How do they expect to induce PSH without a bayonet?

      • Linoge says:

Betcha a buck I could build a piston-operated AR-15 (which could then have a side-folding stock, not that many of those are made for the AR-15 platform) for less than the price of either.

And it would probably shoot about as well for my purposes. When it worked.

      • PT says:

        A) Polymer AR15’s exist
        B) and C) Get a piston upper for the AR15 and you can install a side folder

CDNN sells piston AR15’s (Ruger and Para) for much less than unobtainable SCARs or ACRs

    No caliber conversion?! FAIL.

One thing I love about the ar15 is how much you can screw it up, not even being sarcastic. It is the most modular rifle ever. 5.56×49, 6.5 Grendel, 6.8 spc, .458 socom and .5 Beowulf, and I’m sure there are more, you can shoot pretty much anything that fits in the mag well. and that is just sticking with “traditional” uppers, never mind the weird uppers like crossbows and .50 bmg that just borrow the trigger group and stock. Accessories are everywhere, from bad levers to rails and stocks, you can make the rifle fit you. The only real drawback to the design is lack of a folding stock.

I looked at both of the above rifles and decided that the ar15 did pretty much everything they do just as well.

I know I was shocked when I heard that! I mean that was the whole POINT to this rifle back when it was the Magpul Masada. It was designed to be easily converted to other calibers.
