Jay was talking over at his place about a news story I heard where a local school was being used as a polling place for the nation of BRAZIL. Very odd story, I didn’t really pay it much mind, but read the update:
My wife had to go and vote there. It’s a felony for Brazilian citizens to not vote. The money to pay for the polling places in the US comes directly from Brazil, not from the host nation. Specifically, it comes from monetary fines paid by the people who get busted for not voting in the last election.
Jesus. right now I’m often bewildered that our elections are a bunch of hobos begging for change, and a bunch of adult-children voting for Prom king and queen. Can you imagine what a disaster it would be if it was COMPULSORY!??
Was talking politics with a co-worker today. She said “I really don’t like politics, and I tend to avoid it.” I said “That’s fine, just don’t vote!”
I’m totally fine with a med student not going to class….just so long as he doesn’t become a doctor. I’m fine with somebody not fixing my plumbing, so long as they don’t send me a bill. If you don’t care about politics, fine, just sit it out and leave the voting to those of us who care about the issues.
And not this is a non-partisan issue. There are just as many Moonbat Kay’s out there as there are Liberty Freaks like me. Its the people who elect the president on his haircut or his smile, or people who just assume this letter after their name means something are the ones that get us situations like how the world was sick of two terms of George Bush…so we elected a different George Bush for a 3rd Term….

Partial to Heinlein’s Starship Trooper qualification for Voting myself.
I think its a LITTLE over the top, but forcing somebody to PROVE their citizenship does have a nice ring to it. Also even if there were multiple avenues to gain citizenship it certainly would keep the starving welfare mouths from voting themselves deeper into my pocket.
FYI our lectures in medical school are recorded and synchronized with the powerpoint presentations or there is a video of the whiteboard doodlings. We also have an online forum to ask questions and share information.
Just letting you know.
There’s not much of a need to go to class, but there is always a need to pay attention – I just like writing everything down so I use the recordings instead if I didn’t catch something.
heh, a technicality. I too have “Gone to Class” by sitting at my computer in my PJs, but that’s a big difference between that, and drinking whiskey and watching re-runs on TV.
That was my point.
