Another QOTD from Joan Peterson of the Brady Campaign and the Million Mom March. I still think she’s a calculating liar, but I think its pretty clear she’s also an idiot. Commenter “MNbasecamp” brings up the great point that firearms safety should be taught in public schools. I 100% agree. The 2nd Amendment is part of American culture, as well as a natural right, and just because your household abstains from your right does not mean your children might not find themselves in a situation with a gun. (Not to mention that your anti-gun children might grow up to be gunnies, like I did).
Joan Peterson: “It is not the role of a teacher to teach gun safety. It’s controversial for one thing. I would not want my children learning gun safety because they didn’t have guns around the home. It’s just not gonna happen. Think of something else. ”
You can almost see the outrage on her face and the spittle on her lips. Commenter “Chris Reponds: “Sex ed is controversial too, probably much more controversial than gun safety. That doesn’t stop schools from teaching it (and rightly so, I might add). ”
Joan, defeated responds: “Whatever….”
Heh this is why we win.

For some reason my comment in a similar vein as Chris’ was not approved.
GLBT acceptance/equality is controversial but it is being taught in school, anthropomorphic global
warming change, nausea upset stomach, shift is controversial but it’s being taught.Heck at one point teaching evolution was controversial — can you say Scopes Monkey Trial?
And not to mention that if gun safety was taught to all children, negligent discharge deaths would go down the drain. But we can’t have that now, could we? It would ruin all of her so called statistics.
I have been known to suggest that very thing – mandatory elementary school gun safety classes – just to see my friends’ heads explode.
I’m not very nice, am I? 🙂
We think you are….it is very entertaining to watch their heads explode. We appreciate the effort you go through to provide such entertainment.
the more heads you explode, the more open minds there are. It’s always a plus
Big fan of “Mars Attacks” huh Lissa?
How about: “It is not the role of a teacher to teach Sex Education. It’s controversial for one thing. I would not want my children learning Sex Education in school because they won’t have Sex before marriage. It’s just not gonna happen. Think of something else. ”
Or: “It is not the role of a teacher to teach Marxist social policy. It’s controversial for one thing. I would not want my children learning Marxism because we teach Liberty around the home. It’s just not gonna happen. Think of something else. ”
Or: “It is not the role of a teacher to teach $MINORITY Studies. It’s controversial for one thing. I would not want my children learning $MINORITY Studies because they didn’t have $MINORITIES around the home. It’s just not gonna happen. Think of something else. ”
I see Globull Warmongering up above. Did I miss anything?
The word substitution game works REALLY well to expose bigotry. Their rabid responses that somehow the substitution is invalid is even better.
The rationale for sex education is, “Well, they’re just going to do it anyway; don’t you want them to know about disease and pregnancy?”
I think this rationale needs to be extended to tobacco and drug and alcohol education. Have classes where they are taught how to safely indulge in these vices. Show them how to load that bong and light it without burning down the house. Teach them the proper etiquette for chewing tobacco. (“Never spit into the wind, kids!”) Educate them on the fine points of how to make cocktails! After all, they’re just going to do it anyway, right?
Eh? What’s that? We have to keep them from doing drugs and drinking? Those things are bad for them? Eh? But they’re going to do it anyway! You yourself say we can’t possibly stop them, so–
I find it interesting that we expect kids to control themselves when it comes to drugs or alcohol, but when it comes to sex, they’re totally unstoppable. I’m detecting a bit of hypocrisy, here.
As for firearms education, I do agree that firearm education in high school is not a bad idea. Heck, not too many decades ago plenty of high schools (particularly rural ones) had just that kind of thing as a PE elective. There’s nothing wrong with teaching kids how to use (and, more importantly, how NOT to use) firearms.
My Dad occasionally tells us about sitting in a school buss packed with boyscouts with their rifles, and being a COLD northern Maine winter the bus parked on the firing line, the scout would walk down to the bottom step of the bus, take his shots, then go back inside the bus where it was warm.
Yeah I think Elementary School should teach Eddie Eagle or compatible safety training (Stop, don’t touch, leave the area and find an adult) Middle School should teach the 4 rules of gun safety, and maybe do basic marksmanship (.22 Carbine maybe…tho AR-15s are damn easy to teach youngsters on…tho muzzle breaks should NEVER be used, and suppressors should be strongly considered) and maybe some trap or double-trap in Gym class. High school, even more 4 rules, and basic pistol and definitely auto-loading carbine.
After that the students should have a very solid understanding of the basics working, and safety procedures and concerns of just about all firearms.
And if they have a decent machine shop program, those students could learn to repair the firearms.
Chemistry & Physic students could work up various loads, experiment with different powders.
and think of the scholarship opportunities it could open up for disadvantaged kids. TCU’s rifle team recently won the National championships. When they were out at the club dinner a while back, I think 3 out of the 7(? — don’t quote me) were on full ride scholarships.
Heh, it would be kinda cool if somebody made a Sten in metal shop class.
Her responses range from obvious lies, to blatant bigotry and of course the downright pathetic.
You’re right Weerd. We are winning. We’re winning because folks like Joan Peterson are the caliber of people we’re up against. I would truly feel sorry for them if not for their despicable bigotry.
