Joan is Waxing Poetic about Nelson Mandela, and she has to praise South Africa for their horrible gun laws:
As in America, South Africa struggles still with violence and crime. But they passed laws and have taken measures that have made a difference. They understood that taking measures to prevent violence, after their violent history, just makes common sense.
She cites this article. Formatting means I can’t quote it, so read it, its short. They talk about strict enforcement of crazy gun laws, and leading to a “Decrease in Gun Death”…tho they do admit that “Gun Death” is going up.
Of course we all know that South Africa is NOT the “3rd World” as they are often cited by “Gun Death” fanatics, but it has some of the highest VIOLENT CRIME rate (not just “Gun Death”) in modern society.
This is considered a “Success”! They want this “Success” here too! I don’t. Joan, it will be easier for you to Emigrate to South Africa than change America into that nation. Maybe you should just go there!

It takes an extraordinary level of delusion to try and claim South Africa as a point for gun control.
But she sure did, didn’t she?
That’s why I read Joan’s blog so much. Not only does she do yeoman’s work to give gun control a bad name, she’s a vetted representative of the anti-gun lobby, and the people that actually draft the anti-gun laws in which we fight against.
It would be another thing if she was some dork in her Mom’s basement, or in a dorm room studying for some bogus Liberal Arts degree.
Nope, if she was off base, or considered crazy by the bulk of the Brady Campaign, or the Joyce Foundation, she would either be removed from power, or asked to tone it down, or remove the content.

Yep, South Africa, where cars have the option for electrified door handles and under-door-mounted flamethrowers to reduce carjacking… which actually makes sense to me, as I’d be concerned about blowing an eardrum if I had to shoot from the drivers seat every month or two.
Your pal Joan needs to relocate there and continue her campaign. The carjackers would probably be interested in her ideas. Not everyone has flamethrowers on their car… but apparently too many do, and THEN the jackers have to deal with an armed driver.
As someone who has spoken to a number of SA expats in the past fifteen years, I would quibble.
South Africa under white rule was a gleaming cosmopolitan First World nation. Under black rule it is just another sub-Saharan African failed state, barely distinguishable from the former Rhodesia next door. The whole country is basically Detroit, for all the same reasons, and the ongoing pogroms against the country’s rapidly shrinking white minority look all too familiar from here. For the truth, see
