Today is Patriot’s day. Its a state holiday in Mass and Maine only, some places are still open, others are closed. I have the day MOSTLY off, just had to pop into the lab and check on the critters and make sure everything was OK, then I went right to the range.
I haven’t been in ages, so I decided to really crank out some serious shooting with just the S&W 617. Heavy stainless steel revolver, so recoil is very small, but it still has the factor 10# DA trigger, which is a bit heavy but VERY smooth after several thousand rounds from me through it. Lord knows what the previous owner sent through it. Its also had its cylinder replaced under factory warranty by S&W. Let’s just say I have now ground a nice drag-mark into the new cylinder!
I sent the better part of a 525 round bulk pack down range, almost all of it double-action until my hand got tired and my trigger finger was raw.
I was pretty impressed with my shooting….also I was surprised to find that I actually shoot that revolver more accurately in DAO over cocking the hammer. Have no idea why that is, if its my trigger finger placement, or if its that my trigger pull is sloppier on the lighter pull.
Still I was making some rather nice groups at 25 feet, so I moved the target back to 50 and became much less impressive, still I was on enough for defensive shooting.
I was early, but the range was still moderately empty, maybe 5-6 people. I was only sharing my pistol range with one guy who was shooting a 68cal flintlock pistol. Interesting gun, no sights on it at all. I kinda don’t see the fun in that. I do still want me a Walker Colt Clone. BP pistols are cool.
Well I feel much better now. Now time to clean a FILTHY gun!
RE Patriot’s Day: I understand that on 18 April, 1775 was the Midnight Ride of Paul Revere, correct? It was 19 April, 1775 that the Ruling Elites sent in their Goons to Lexington and Concord to enforce their version of Gun Control, correct? So my question is this: Is this Holiday for the Ride or the Battle? Or is this just a way to have a long weekend for all those Hard Working Ruling Elites that are still trying to enforce Gun Control up there? Just curious. I do know that the Waco Massacre also occurred on 19 April, and so did Oklahoma City.
