Just happened to be playing with the IMDB app for my phone, and just as a test I went to the Aliens page, and then clicked to see what Michael Biehn has been up to. Well it appears he’ll be playing Randall Flagg in the new Dark Tower Film Series….wow.
I must say a lot of authors set out to write a Lord of the Rings style epic fantasy novel. Just about all of them have been tedious slogs through the wilderness interspersed with filler just so they can stretch the series out a FEW MORE novels.
The Dark Tower wasn’t one of them. Besides the ending which was debatable (I kinda liked it, and accept that nothing you read for that long will end pleasantly, also the last book is a bit of a rough downer, and the ending does really add a neat touch).
Looks like a good cast (sofar), and Ron Howard as the director….still wikipedia says it will be both film and TV. That seems like a disaster. I can’t imagine a safe-for-TV Dark tower (Then again The Stand miniseries was pretty awesome) so maybe they’ll publish the series though HBO or Showtime where they don’t need to keep the nudity, language, or gore to a minimum.

It is with much trepidation that I await this project. Loved the Dark Tower. Yeah, the ending is debatable, but honestly, I wouldn’t have liked much of anything. I really just hated that it was over. Those characters were part of my life at that point.
We’re on the same page.
I know the book series is still in process but how does the Dark Tower compare to the Game of Thrones. I was really hooked on the first book of that series.
Couldn’t tell you, haven’t read that series
I couldn’t get into The Dark Tower. I tried, believe me. I used to read a lot of King, but “It” scared me so badly that I was pretty much done after that.
Dunno if its worth the commitment to you, but try to get through the second book and see if you aren’t hooked. The first book was written while he was still a drunk college student in the Orono Library at UMaine (GO BEARS!!!!) Its hands down the weakest book in the series. Book 4 also has a big backstory arc that some found boring, but I was so hooked by then I had no complaints.
Stephen King is such a prolific and voluminous writer one must be VERY cautious to pigeonhole him. Stories like IT, The Myst, and Pet Cemetery are super-creepy horrors. But Books like Hearts in Atlantis, and The Green Mile, or Different Seasons, are really “American Novel” fair for any Lit Course worth its salt.
Dark Tower, like most of King’s works has a LOT of darkness, but there isn’t much in there to keep you up at night except for the fact that you have a 1400 page book on your lap that you’d rather not put down unfinished.
Give the series another try….or not, as Falnfenix says, there are a LOT of good books out there.

see: Sword of Truth series. got sloggy and dull after the 8th or 9th book.
i keep meaning to read DT…but the problem is i have TOO MANY books to read. it’s still on the list, i just won’t get to it for awhile.
