So we’re heading out for lunch soon, but I thought I’d share this bit of AWESOME G33kery.

My lovely hosts have a computer hooked up to a widescreen, so while the woman folks were doing woman things, I read my morning bloggery and started playing some Nethack on the monster screen!
We’re thinking of doing a similar thing with one (or maybe both) of our widescreens when we upgrade our computers and have the old units kicking around.
Yeah Nethack on a widescreen! I RULE!!! 🙂

Gotta love the classics. Except nowadays I’ve been preferring Desktop Dungeons. Get my deaths over with quicker that way.
You should, it makes streaming video a lot more pleasant, or more unpleasant if you want to inflict jar squatter of on some one.
Just skip my mistake and make sure the machine in question will stream HD cleanly before you spend anything on it.
Yeah these boxes are or current deskstops so yeah they should do just fine.
Thanks for the pointers. (And bonus points for mentioning Jar Squatter)
+5 Geek points. +10 if you’re really pissed they added dialogue to Darth Vader in the Blu Ray release of the original “Return of the Jedi”.
Count me at+10 🙂
I’m taking 5 for “Star Wars”.
What’s the screen ratio on that thing? I don’t think I’ve ever seen some a large width to height ratio…
That should be “such” not “some”…
Just asked the host, he’s not really sure.
He says: “It works, so who cares?” 🙂
That’s minus 10 geek points, dude. It’s like having a gun and not being sure what model it is. 😉
Yep, you’re a geek 🙂
home theater pc running xbox media center FTW. doo eet.
You sir are a man amongst men.
You’re actually coming out even. +5 geek points for NetHack on the big screen. -5 for running it on Windows.
I had an Ubuntu box in the armory as a cheap entertainment center, but I never really got into it. So I stick with what I know, and I know its buggy, filled with memory holes, and is a bloated piece of software.
Also if its any consolation I’m playing over tellnet to the alt.org server which I believe is also Ubuntu.
Don’t forget the smaller screen ….

kindle hardware is elegant and well designed. It makes a great Nethack or Zork platform. It’s pretty cool to have Nethack along for travel since the form factor is just about ideal, and having a kindle isn’t conspicuous.
