OK AWESOME!

I don’t know how I missed this since I’ve read the Giant Squid wikipedia page several times (as well as the one for the Colossal Squid which there is also video of a living specimen which can be seen here on Netflix )

I never knew these videos existed, thanks to Lazy Bike Commuter for pointing them out!

This first one is neat, but THIS one is REALLY cool!

That’s a big beastie!

And why not, let’s throw in a great video of the Giant’s little cousin the Humbolt Squid

Intelligent, pack hunting, and aggressive. They’re described as the wolf-pack of the sea! Cephalopods RULE!
COOL!

    …and taste good

I know the humbolts are good eatin’ No reason to think the bigger ones aren’t any worse!

Of course that’s a LOT of work for a squid steak.

Not only do I love them as great miracles of nature, they are damn delicious. Went to a Mongolian BBQ the other day and I picked out a bowl of NOTHING but tentacles. The mantles are nice, but nothing beats the texture of the tentacles once they get a little crispy on the grill!

      • I actually read somewhere years ago that they are really high in ammonia….some science fists studying them had bits of one in the freezer aboard ship and, after some heavy drinking, decided to try a bit.

Don’t ask me for a citation, I think I saw that in a Reader’s Digest article well over a decade ago.

    that’s a big calamari.

I saw that when it was on TV. My 4 year-old was watching and is now fascinated with squid. She draws them all of the time. Poor kid doesn’t have chance with daddy have Marine Biology in his background. She’s going to be a sea geek.

  4. I hadn’t seen the one with the squid actually being caught before either, but it sire was awesome. Good-sized water jet on that thing.
