The Devil in Film

This is a great video:

I would have bumped up the Devil in “The Passion of the Christ” for his creepy androgyny. Still I like the picks in this.

Oh and I LOVE Tom Wait’s portrayal of the Devil in The Black Rider:

I don’t believe in the Devil, or in Heaven or Hell. Still I love the polarity of it all for the sake of narrative.

What do y’all think?

“Gun Death” Kitchen Knife

Not a gun death:

A northern New Jersey teenager has appeared in court to face charges that he fatally stabbed his 20-year-old sister with a kitchen knife during an argument…A friend of the victim told the news station that Teia was looking to get away from the suspect who she described as “aggressive.”

“She wanted to live on campus next year to get away from his anger,” Jennifer O’Connor, a friend of Teia’s told NorthJersey.com. Teia was reportedly a junior at Dominican College but was living at home.

Unfortunately she didn’t get away soon enough. Also note that the murder weapon was a kitchen knife, a dangerous implement that is found in EVERY household. Yet we don’t see such deaths very often.

Its the person, not the tool!

Socialist “Protection”

Wow, gotta love the Mommy State!

Easy on the cinnamon! That advice from Denmark’s food authority has rankled pastry chefs whose cinnamon rolls were found to violate the European Union’s spice rules.

The Danish Veterinary and Food Administration recently discovered that Danish cinnamon rolls and twists contained more coumarin — a chemical compound in the most common variety of cinnamon — than EU rules allow. Excessive intake of coumarin can cause liver damage.

The agency asked bakers to reduce the amount of cinnamon they sprinkle in the dough for their sweet treats.

To be fair, excessive consumption of sweet treats can also mess up your body. I have my doubts these rolls were SO loaded with cinnamon to be any more dangerous than the fat and sugar also in the rolls.

But with all encompassing government comes all encompassing rules and regulations!

Racist Video

It makes some attempts at balance. Still the majority of the anti-NRA statements are false claims and factual inaccuracies. The pro-gun side is pretty good, but they don’t seem to talk about what the NRA is doing.

The Most Egregious errors are “Black People Don’t Join the NRA”: These people obviously weren’t at last year’s NRA Convention in Houston. Blacks and Hispanics were VERY well represented.

The talk of “Neo Confederatism” and Dr. Martin Luther King being denied an Alabama gun permit is just false. The NRA was founded by Northern Republicans after the civil war, and have been fighting ever since to repeal all the anti-gun Jim Crow laws that still exist in this state. The KKK was an organization founded by Southern Democrats, and Southern Democrats still are fighting to make it more and more difficult for blacks to own guns.

This video makes me more sad than anything else.

With All Those Gun Rights Advances…

Chicago seems to be doing the better for it:

Following a year when Chicago led the nation in homicides with more than 500, the city’s Police Department said Wednesday that in 2013 the city recorded the fewest killings since 1965 and saw its overall crime rate fall to level not seen since 1972.

The city, which ended the year with a 16 percent drop in crime, saw the numbers of violent crimes, including robbery, aggravated battery and criminal sexual assault drop significantly — some by double digits– as well as drops in burglary and motor vehicle theft….”We are making significant progress by putting additional officers in high-crime areas, using intelligence to prevent retaliatory shootings, moving officers from administrative positions back to the streets,” Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy said in a statement.

One reason Chicago has been in the national spotlight is that in recent years it has recorded more homicides than larger cities like New York City and Los Angeles. That was again true in 2013, with New York recording 333 homicides, the lowest number since comparable record-keeping began in 1963. And, according to the Los Angeles Times, as of Dec. 28, there were 250 homicides in LA, compared with 298 the year before.

In Chicago, the police also said the number of shootings fell 24 percent from 2,448 to 1,864 between 2012 and 2013, and the number of shooting victims dropped from 3,066 to 2,328 for the same period. Further, the department said every police district in the city saw a reduction in crime and all but four of the city’s 22 police districts saw the number of homicides either fall or remain the same as the year before.

Also interesting that Chicago is in the forefront of repealing horrible gun control laws. Not only is this because of the current climate on gun laws in the nation, but it is also at a time where more people from Chicago and Illinois are BUYING guns at the highest rate ever.

Am I saying the relaxation of gun laws, and people’s interest in being armed for self defense are lowering the homicide rate? No. But one thing is true…you can’t say these changes made things WORSE!

“Gun Death” Python Attack

Big snakes, even non venomous ones are dangerous:

A python strangled a security guard near a luxury hotel on Indonesia’s resort island of Bali on Friday, and then escaped into nearby bushes following the deadly attack, police and a hotel employee who witnessed the incident said….He had offered to help capture the snake, which had apparently been spotted several times before near the hotel, located in Bali’s Sanur area, Bawa said.

Mulyo managed to secure the snake’s head and tail and put it on his shoulders, but the python wrapped itself around his body and strangled him, said Bawa, who was present during the attack.

People watching the incident were unable or unwilling to help and called the police, who came but failed to save the man. The python escaped into nearby bushes, and police were still searching for it.

So the snake killed one man, and is still on the loose. This isn’t a “Gun Death”, but can you really say it would have been worse if the guard had instead shot the snake a few times and dealt with it then?

Knockout Arrest Made

Its not the tool, its the person:

The NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force busted a Brooklyn man for at least seven “knockout” assaults, cops said Friday.

Barry Baldwin, 35, punched out the victims between Nov. 9 and Christmas Eve in Canarsie and Midwood, police said.
All of the victims were white women and most were Jewish, a law-enforcement source said. At least two of the attacks occurred on the Sabbath.

A dangerous person is vastly more dangerous than the most politically incorrect firearm!
