Interesting

And likely will be ignored:

Administration officials now live in fear of a 19th-century law that could get them fired, penalized or even imprisoned if they make the wrong choices while the government is shut down.

The law is the Antideficiency Act, passed by Congress in 1870 (and amended several times), which prohibits the government from incurring any monetary obligation for which Congress has not appropriated funds.

In shutting down the government, most memos cite the law as the reason. The Government Accountability Office says employees who violate the Antideficiency Act may be subject to disciplinary action, suspension and even “fines, imprisonment, or both.”

CNBC has learned that in several executive branch departments, high-level staff members review individual decisions about what government activities to allow for fear of running afoul of the Antideficiency Act. One White House official said he has advised his employees not to check their email or cellphones. Under the act, even volunteering for government service is expressly prohibited.

In a memo to his department employees today, Treasury Secretary Jack Lew cited the law as the reason for reduced staffing.

Keep trimming that fat!

And the HORRORS! We might find that **GASP** those “Libertarian Anarchists” Were RIGHT!!!

Sometimes They Have a Little TOO Much Fun

Is there any doubt that the followers of “Global Warming” “Global Climate Change” are a cult masquerading as science?

I also must tip my Hat to Robb for this little quote:

A politically motivated, decades-long war on expertise has eroded the popular consensus on a wide variety of scientifically validated topics. Everything, from evolution to the origins of climate change, is mistakenly up for grabs again.

Oddly the only people who have a “Consensus” on Global Warming Whatever they want to call it, are those who stand to profit from its mythical existence. This is no different than the “Studies” by the Tobacco Institute from the 50s. Something that is now considered a scientific laughing stock of Scientific Mercenaries bending the rules of logic to line their own pockets.

Not that being a mercenary for ANY cause is WRONG per-se, if somebody want to pay you to write a bogus report, take the money and run. Just don’t call it “Science”!

And yes, if you’re in the cult and feel that maybe your ability to reproduce is harming Mother Gaea…well maybe you should do something about that! *snicker*

“Gun Death” Sleep Sofa

I owned my last Sleep Sofa in my Bachelor apartment in Maine. I’ve vowed to never own one ever again, for none of these reasons:

A New York City man has been arrested in connection with the death of a 3-year-old girl who got caught inside a sofa bed….The Daily News says Barry told police he had stepped out of the apartment for about 10 minutes.

Police say the sofa bed folded up when the sisters were on it, trapping them. The older girl managed to get out.

Aissante was pronounced dead at a hospital. The medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

Sore backs and nightmares to move them are why I hate them. Never thought of them as deadly weapons.

Still, not a “Gun Death”.

MEGATRON!

I really need to buy a P38 or a P1

Glad he did the head-to-head with the Beretta 92 which is essentially the modern double-stack version of the Walther.

SCAR Love

I really like the SCAR…I like the SCAR-17 better because I like .308 better.

I don’t much care for muzzle brakes because they just aren’t worth it with infantry cartridges IMHO, and as you see in the video it makes them OBNOXIOUSLY loud. I frequently shoot on an indoor range, and those guys with the braked .223 rifles really bother me.

Also a good question for Wally, how hard would it be to convert one to .300 BLK? Wouldn’t it just take milling out a new Barrel?

Life Ironically Imitates Snark

So Tam wrote this snarky post of hyperbole yesterday. (Tam forgive my large quote)

Apparently Congress is in charge of food supplies to orphans, and the Republicans in Congress are saying they won’t give any more food to orphans unless they get some babies to eat?

But the Democrats are saying “No, Republicans! While it is important to give food to orphans, we can’t let you devour any more infants.”

Now today this little scene by Harry Reid ironically shows where the reality is:

Yep kids with Cancer are LESS important than Public Sector Union employees being furloughed!

Also I love the “Republicans are Obsessed with Obamacare” coupled with Kool-Aid flooded hype and empty promises about a bloated bill that can’t even get off the ground!

You can’t even make this shit up!

The Tyranny of “May Issue”

From Massachusetts of course!

A 19-year-old Dighton man is suing the town and its police chief for seizing his guns and suspending his firearms identification card, according to a lawsuit filed last week in U.S. federal court in Boston.

Matthew P. Plouffe claims that town’s police department violated his Constitutional right to bear arms. The lawsuit calls for the reinstatement of Plouffe’s FID card and the return of his guns. The lawsuit also requests an order permanently enjoining all the law enforcement officials involved from enforcing the state’s gun license law, and calls for the payment of Plouffe’s attorney fees….On March 27, the lawsuit states, police Chief Robert MacDonald and the sergeant decided that Plouffe’s FID card would be suspended and any weapons in his possession would be seized. That same day, Dighton police entered Plouffe’s home and seized two pump-action shotguns, 10 rounds of rifle ammunition, five rounds of shotgun ammunition, a muzzle-loading black powder rifle, a 28-inch shotgun barrel, a box of black powder bullets and other accessories and tamper-resistant locks.

Note, no criminal charges filed, also look at what was seized! Now firearms and ammunition ARE covered under our onerous FID/LTC system, but a shotgun barrel, a black powder gun (powder and shot/bullets ARE covered, but a black powder gun is NOT A FIREARM!), and SAFETY LOCKS?

Frankly this is such a boorish overstep of the law that hopefully the fallout from this case will benefit all of us behind the iron curtain.

Also it shows how little gun permits have to do with safety!

From the “Global Warming” Agency

This is a hum-dingier of a story! You can’t make this crap up!

A high-ranking federal Environmental Protection Agency official who admitted to cheating the government out of nearly $1 million by pretending to be a secret agent, smugly refused to answer questions from lawmakers Tuesday, invoking the Fifth Amendment – even though he’s already pleaded guilty.

John Beale, who got himself a cushy four-day workweek for years by telling his bosses he had a one-day-per-week gig at the CIA, refused to answer even the most basic questions from Rep. Darryl Issa, R-Calif., chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. Although Issa said his committee hauled Beale, 64, in not to “ridicule” him, but to ensure that the fraud he committed wasn’t being duplicated by other government employees, Beale calmly refused…..Inspector General Arthur Elkins, whose office unraveled Beale’s long-running deception, called it an “egregious and almost unbelievable case.” He testified that in addition to bilking the government for salary, Beale also had a longstanding requirement that he fly first-class due to a dubious back injury. One flight, to London, cost taxpayers $14,000, when a coach ticket would have cost just $1,000, according to Elkins.

Elkins said Beale was able to get away with the fraud for so long because of “an absence of even basic internal controls at the EPA.” But Elkins was never able to directly question Beale because inspectors general, who serve as auditors of federal agencies, cannot compel former federal employees to talk. Beale retired just before the probe began….In 2005, an EPA manager approved a research project that Beale had proposed, despite the fact that it had no internal controls or oversight. From 2005 to 2007, Beale took about five trips to Los Angeles for the project and was reimbursed for $57,000. The statement of offense says that he used the project to have the EPA pay for his personal travel, which included visiting family members in California.

Amazing, and he RETIRED before these charges were leveled! Again, he ALMOST got away with this! And we’re supposed to be upset that the government is currently shut down?

Oh and the icing on the cake:

Beale came under suspicion when EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy expressed concerns about his expenses. Assistant Inspector General Patrick Sullivan, who led the probe, said he interviewed some 40 people, only one of whom ever suspected Beale’s life as a secret agent was a fraud. Investigators also compared Beale’s cellphone records to his travel expenses and determined that when he claimed to be in Pakistan and other locations on CIA business, he was really at his Massachusetts vacation home.

This is why I always say “I’m from Maine, I just LIVE in Massachusetts!” The partisan hack in me wants to give a VERY smug guess on how he voted in the last few decades.

Yeah….

“Gun Death” Lucky Break

She thought she killed him, thankfully she was wrong:

Police say a Connecticut woman asked to be arrested because she had burned her boyfriend to death. The man actually survived, and was taken to a hospital with second-degree burns over 70 percent of his body.

Police say the woman called them just after midnight Friday to say she had killed her boyfriend and would be waiting outside her Hartford home for police to arrive. The woman reportedly said: “Arrest me. I did it. I burned him alive.”

Also to add to this, look at the charges:

Police charged 47-year-old Julia Rivera with assault, reckless endangerment, violation of a protective order and disorderly conduct.

He’s burned on 70% of his body, and no Attempted Murder, or Assault with a Deadly Weapon? What Bullshit!

Further she violated a protection order to horribly disfigure this man. I be he wished he had a gun, and had shot her before she burned him.

This is the world those who spend all their time talking about “Gun Death” want for us! Is that what you want?
