“Gun Death” Restraining Order

I’ve had several people contact me for advice about stalkers or people who are making violent threats against them. I tell them two things: Get a Protective Order, and get a gun, and train to use it. Its stories like this that drive my advice.

A Carlsbad woman found strangled last week had claimed days before she went missing that her ex-boyfriend was stalking her and her daughter, had threatened one of her friends and had once dragged her into his car before she escaped, according to documents supporting a domestic violence restraining order.

Now in this case the woman was killed by strangulation. All the gun control in the world would not have stopped this brutal murder. On the other hand if she had been armed she certainly would have stood a better chance at defending herself. And if the fight culminated in this jerk being shot dead the protective order would have both documented past violence, and future violence, and she would have a VERY solid case for justifiable homicide.

But that’s just about all restraining orders do. They certainly don’t STOP a violent person from doing ANYTHING. Bullets do. Consider that.

Potentially My Last VC

It’s Friday night, and at 9pm EST it’ll be time for some good old Vicious Circle.

I love it, and it’s been two on two week hiatus. Why might this be my last Vicious Circle?

Well tonight this is my beverage:

Yep that’s an MD 20/20 AKA Mad Dog, and that’s not a modern label, this is a 1990s vintage, and I have cracked the seal to verify it wasn’t Vineger and found rust under the cap.

My wife is standing by with an epi-pen that’s probably about 15 years past expiration, and Jay G has my home phone number in the event she falls asleep as my internal organs dissolve.

If that won’t get you to tune in live nothing will!

With a little luck and a decent tail wind I’ll have recovered from this Vicious Circle in time for the next one….if not, it’s been real swell! 8)

BTW this encapsulated hangover is Wally’s doing. I don’t know why, but I’m still Friends with him!

Quote of the Day: Barron

Barron hits it out of the park with this tag line.

No one but god himself has the ability to restrict the right to self-defense, and even then I’d tell him to F-off.

I’ve always been one to say that you can’t believe in a kind, compassionate, and caring God who says you can’t eat bacon or pork ribs. Sorry, that’s not love, that’s SPITE!

Same goes for a God that demands you not defend your own life as a sacred gift, or defend the lives of innocent others.

If your God asks you to not defend yourself, you rightly should tell him to F-Off, because either he deserves it, or he’s testing you on the brass content of your balls.

More Blood-Dancing

Omar Samaha’s sister was killed by Cho in the Virginia Tech Massacre. It appears now he’s working with the other blood-dancers at CSGV to make sure everybody in America is as helpless as his sister was that day.

BTW in the whole interview notice how the one concrete thing is the police response time was a “Quick” 20 mins. (I would call that hardly enough, given that the majority of the VT students were murdered in about a 10 min timespan) The rest is hand-wringing and blood dancing.

These are shameful people, and while I pity his loss, when you do something like this you lose my sympathy very quickly.

With All The Talk of Fast and Furious

You have to be pretty stupid to write a post that talks about the BATFE tracking gun-runners into Mexico.

Yeah the ATF knew about these runners….they SOLD them the guns, and swiped the FBI’s credit card to do it!

Shotgun Rack

A frequent thing you read on the gun blogs and similar publications is that the sound of a shell being chambered into a shotgun will cause unavoidable fear. Its bullshit, just take your pump-gun to the range and see how many people run when you pipe that first round.

Still another thing we say is “The loudest sound is a “click” when we were expecing a “bang””. I think the shotgun rack follows this principle.

she says when the men ignored her barking pit bull and black lab, and broke through a kitchen door, she had no other choice but to chamber a round into the 12-gauge shotgun.

There’s perhaps no other sound that commands as much respect and fear. The young woman at the business end of that gun was home alone and prepared to protect herself.

It was a broad-daylight robbery that started with the robbers ringing the doorbell. The woman was home sick so she didn’t answer the door. Thinking nobody was home they broke in….finding out they were wrong and the woman at home had a shotgun they ran.

I betcha the shotgun rack was louder than the dogs barking or the door breaking because they didn’t expect that. If they DO expect a shotgun…best be prepared for them to not hear anything else…ever.

Oh and because you folks tolerate my abortion stance I must add this:

It’s the last thing two burglary suspects expected to hear when they broke into a Coon Rapids home. From within the house came the unmistakable sound of a pump shotgun. At the other end of that gun was a 22-year-old woman who is nine weeks pregnant.

That means she’s at the end of her fist trimester, which is that magical window where the thing in her belly goes from a “Lump of cells” that can be removed with as little concern as deciding to get a tummy tuck or any other cosmetic surgery, to a kinda-sorta-person (But they’d rather not discuss this at this point).

Why did the newspaper find it relevant that this 1st Trimester mother-to-be was indeed with child?

BTW already she sounds like she’s going to be a first-rate mother. Best wishes to her and her family!

The Vz 58

Watched this neat video last night

The Vz-58 rifle is such an odd duck. At first glance it can quickly be mistaken for an AK-47. It also fires the same 7.62×39 round from the ubiquitous 30-round banana-shaped magazine.

Still besides looks, the gun is very different. Its striker-fired. It uses a locking breech block similar to an SKS or an FAL, rather than the rotating bolt of the AK, while the mags look similar they are alloy and unique to the ’58, also the Vz-58 has a bolt-hold-open like most modern military rifles do.

What I find so interesting was how many changes they made from the AK pattern and still how wrong the rifle came out. The safety is better…but still ergonomically lame, and just watch Hickok futz with those magazines. Yeah it doesn’t us an AK mag, but you still need to wiggle them around to rock them into place.

Still I think they’re kinda cool.

Plain Old Neat!

Seen on Linoge’s Soldier’s Angels fundraiser page:

1x Crimson Trace Corporation Glock Generation 4 LaserGrip, courtesy of CTC. Want something that is not even on the market yet? Donate to Soldiers’ Angels, and you could win it at the beginning of next year. This LaserGrip is just like all of its kin, except that it is designed specifically to be mounted on the newest Generation of Glock handguns, of all various sizes.

How cool is that? Crimson Trace has donated an item that isn’t even available on the market yet. Good on Crimson Trace, good on Linoge, good on you if you decide to drop some cash into the pot. Its for a good cause.
