The Story the Nation Ignored

Robb mentions a Marine who received the Navy and Marine Corps Medal for heroism for foiling a attempted robbery, mass rape, and murder.

On the night of the party, the robbers stole money, cellphones and other items from the partygoers. Then Barner and the five other male partygoers were forced into a back bedroom; the four women were split into two groups and sent to separate bedrooms.

When the men overheard the robbers’ plan to rape the women and then shoot all the victims, Barner decided he had to take action. The sergeant, licensed to carry a concealed weapon, waited until the robbers were far enough away from the bedroom that he could grab the .40-caliber handgun in his book bag, which he had stashed in the room earlier that night.

This story has been very close to my heart because it covers so many gun rights issues. First these were college students….you know the ones who should never have guns, right? Second it was a massive assault where the robbers mentioned their plans to rape all the women, then execute the entire party. “Give them What they Want?” What if what they want is to rape you and then kill you and your friends?

Furthermore one man was killed, the other fled. Lots of lives saved, one life lost. I also read in one of the reports that one of the party goers was superficially wounded by a stray round from the Marine’s pistol (not sure if that’s true, I do know the original stories never mentioned he was a Marine).

All of this makes for an epic story…and it was only published in local papers and gun blogs.

Why would the media ignore a story like this? The only explanation I can think of is that a lawful citizen (specifically a young black man) foiling a brutal mass murder with a concealed pistol is an inconvenient truth.

That’s because we know that gun rights advocates are only fat old white men who enjoy seeing inner city minorities killed by guns.

    Just ask Chicago’s police chief.

And that guns are only used to murder and assault people.

That whole 100,000 to 1M defensive gun uses per year (as opposed to 15,000 Gun Murders, and 70,000 injuries) MUST be ignored to keep the lie alive.

I have to take issue with your characterization, Weerd.

This was NOT ignored in the media. The anti-gun groups were *ALL* over this, using headlines like:

“College student opens fire at party, one killed”.

(I really wish I were making this up…)

I’m not the Link you were asking for, but the Navy Times article indicates that the injured victim took fire from one of the criminals.
