Youch!!!

Will Brown has his S&W 625-10 dissasemble on him.

That stinks, dude. Still get ahold of S&W and see what they say about making it right. They did great work on my out-of-Time 617, and did the work quickly, and for free. This is certainly their fault.

If they don’t have mothballed parts for this gun, maybe they can franken-gun one for you out of a 329 (if that’s possible …I’m hardly a wheelie expert)

Good luck and keep us posted.

Since when is “Glock” spelled S-M-I-T-H…?

Ouch. Glad everyone is ok, but I’ll also note that this doesn’t seem to be a really uncommon problem with the Scandium guns.

I was going to at least ask if the Smith was made in their facility in Brazil….

    Jeez, tough crowd. πŸ™‚

Got off the phone with S&W maybe an hour ago. Shipping label and instructions are on their way to me and the gun pieces will be off to where-ever next week I hope.

As noted above, there is a history of scandium alloy frames having “issues” – mostly, I think, due to lack of handling experience with the metal during assembly. I have a Smith 431 PD in scandium and have had zero problems from it. I also think the heavier caliber bullet weight contributes.

Since these were always a limited production run, replacement from stock is a non-starter. I’m looking forward with that horror-movie sense of mild dread in anticipation of what S&W comes up with as exchange/replacement.

This could all go horribly wrong yet …

My every-Day carry gun is my S&W1911Sc, and I LOVE scandium. Its light and much stronger than the more traditional aluminum.

Tho a few of those blew up too. But the overall percentage is low. Smith is offering so many scandium guns in just about every model, and with good result.

Hopefully all will go well in your replacement or repair, Will!

They may have some NOS 325PDs lying about, which is more or less the same gun but with adjustable sights…

    • Will Brown says:

Oooohh! Now, there’s a real contender for the “make Will feel so much better about all this” option.

      One can but hope …

      • Will Brown says:

I wonder if S&W would throw in some minor customization (contrasting color cylinder paint maybe, bobbed trigger; like that) to make up the ~$400 price difference between the 325PD and the 625-10? Anybody got any experience (first- or second-hand) of S&W’s historical practice in this regard? Their general reputation makes it seem a not-unreasonable possibility, but …

Weer’d! The CAPTCHA Code is VD8U. That may be the eventuallity, but let’s not rush things eh? πŸ™‚

I just have to say, this is an example of the consequence of comment spamming. My two-day-in-the-writing blog post gets by far the most commentary (by me included) at Weer’d Beard
‘s blog. I appreciate all the interest, but he gets all the comment stat’s! Waahh!

There’s karma for you, I guess.

Don’t worry, Dude, with traffic comes readership, and with readership comes comments.

I also just happen to be as much of a chatter-box in cyberspace as I am in Meatspace, so that helps too!
