Police have charged a man with manslaughter in connection with the death of an architect in downtown Austin on Labor Day…. A friend of Casey’s told police that there was a brief argument between Casey and a male and female couple, the affidavit said. He said that he saw the woman punch Casey in the left side of the head, causing him to fall to the ground, the affidavit said. The two then fled the scene.
Another witness described the man as being the one who struck Casey, the affidavit said.
Police reviewed surveillance cameras downtown, but while they could not get footage of the actual fight, they captured images of the man and woman they believe were involved. Casey’s friend identified them in the footage, the affidavit said.
A few days after Casey died and police released images of the suspects to the news media, an anonymous tipster told police that Preston Joe Sharpnack was the man in the video footage, the affidavit said.
Unarmed attack, ends in death. Who needs a weapon? Of course for those who use the metric of “Gun Death” think the tool is more important than the person committing a crime!
